Huntington Area Rapid Transit is a bus system exclusively within the Huntington, New York, Town of Huntington in the state of New York (state), New York. It began service operations in 1978. The system is completely separate from Suffolk County Transit. Fares Fares for the buses are $2.25 for adults, $1.25 for students grades K-12, 75 cents for senior citizens (age 60+), individual with disabilities, Medicare card holders, and free for children 44 inches and under. Transfers to other bus routes cost 25 cents, including to buses of the Suffolk County Transit and Nassau Inter-County Express systems. January 2, 2013 route changes HART restructured five former routes prior to the January 2, 2013 changes. Three former fixed routes were restructured. Two weekday peak rail-feeder routes were eliminated because they were underutilized. Walt Whitman Shops (formerly known as Walt Whitman Mall) is a shopping mall in Huntington Station, New York in Suffolk County, New York on Long Island. As of 2022, the mall currently features Bloomingdale's, Macy's, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Huntington is a station on the Port Jefferson Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. It is located near New York Avenue (NY 110), connecting it to Melville, the Long Island Expressway and Huntington and Broadway in Huntington Station, New York, but is also accessible from Lenox Road and Fairground Avenue near East Second Street. The Gillig Low Floor (originally named Gillig H2000LF and also nicknamed Gillig Advantage) is a transit bus manufactured by the Gillig Corporation. The second low-floor bus introduced in the United States (after the New Flyer LF), the Low Floor has been produced since 1997. Greenlawn (LIRR Station)
Greenlawn is a station on the Port Jefferson Branch of the Long Island Rail Road near the intersection of Boulevard Avenue and Broadway (Suffolk CR 86) in Greenlawn, New York, a few blocks north of Pulaski Road. It is the first station east of Huntington on the non-electrified section of the branch. History Greenlawn was originally known as Old Fields, but the first railroad station was named Centreport as it was meant to serve the village of Centerport, located about to the north. Dix Hills, New York
Dix Hills is an affluent hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) on Long Island in the town of Huntington in Suffolk County, New York. The population was 26,892 at the 2010 census. In the past, Dix Hills and some of its neighbors have proposed incorporating as the Incorporated Village of Half Hollow Hills. These proposals were all mothballed. History Settlers traded goods with the Indigenous Secatogue tribe for the land that became Dix Hills in 1699. The Secatogues lived in the northern portion of the region during the later half of that century. The land was known as Dick's Hills. By lore, the name traces to a local native named Dick Pechegan, likely of the Secatogues. Scholar William Wallace Tooker wrote that the addition of the English name "Dick" to the indigenous name "Pechegan" was a common practice. Centerport is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States, on the notably affluent North Shore of Long Island, historically known as the Gold Coast. Northport Traction Company
Northport Traction Company was a trolley service in the Town of Huntington in New York. It ran from 1902 to 1924 and served East Northport and Northport, New York. The company only had one line throughout its history which ran from Northport (LIRR station) to Northport Harbor, at what is today Cow Harbor Park.
