H. Tipperudraswamy
Honnali Tipperudraswamy (3 February 1928 – 28 October 1994) was an Indian scholar and writer of Kannada literature. He wrote political history, religious realities and cultural aspects. He has written a few biographies meant for children on the lives of Kannada poets and Veerashaiva saints. He has made contributions to literary criticism and modern literature. Early life and education Swamy was born in Hiregonigere village, Honnāli, Davanagere district, and obtained early education in his native town and Teerthahalli. He secured B.A. Hons. in 1951 and M.A. in 1952 degrees in Kannada from the University of Mysore. His work, ‘Sharanara Anubhaava Saahitya’ (Mystical Literature of the Shivasharanas’) earned him a Ph. D. degree from the Karnataka University. Honnāli
Honnāli (also written as Honnali) is a town and a taluk headquarter in Davanagere district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Its name is derived from ''honnarali,'' which means "Blossom of gold". Geography Honnali is located at and has an average elevation of 540 m (1771 ft). The Tungabhadra River flows through the area. Kannada (; ಕನ್ನಡ, ), originally romanised Canarese, is a Dravidian language spoken predominantly by the people of Karnataka in southwestern India, with minorities in all neighbouring states. It has around 47 million native speakers, and was additionally a second or third language for around 13 million non-native speakers in Karnataka. Akkamahadevi
Akka Mahadevi ಅಕ್ಕ ಮಹಾದೇವಿ (c.1130–1160) was one of the early female poets of the Kannada literature and a prominent person in the Lingayat Shaiva sect in the 12th century. Her 430 extant Vachana poems (a form of spontaneous mystical poems), and the two short writings called ''Mantrogopya'' and the ''Yogangatrividhi'' are considered her most notable contribution to Kannada literature. She composed fewer poems than other saints of the movement. The term ''Akka'' ("elder Sister") is an honorific given to her by great Lingayat saints such as Basavanna, Siddharama and Allamaprabhu and an indication of her high place in the spiritual discussions held at the "Anubhava Mantapa". Basaveshwara, colloquially known as Basavanna, was a 12th-century CE Indian statesman, philosopher, poet, Lingayat social reformer in the Shiva-focussed bhakti movement, and a Hindu Shaivite social reformer during the reign of the Kalyani Chalukya/Kalachuri dynasty. Kendra Sahitya Academy Award
The Sahitya Akademi Award is a literary honour in India, which the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, annually confers on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the 22 languages of the 8th Schedule to the Indian constitution as well as in English and Rajasthani language. Established in 1954, the award comprises a plaque and a cash prize of ₹ 1,00,000. The award's purpose is to recognise and promote excellence in Indian writing and also acknowledge new trends. Davanagere District
Davanagere district is an administrative district of Karnataka state in India. It is the centre of Karnataka. The city of Davanagere is the district headquarters. It had a population of 1,643,494 of which 32.31% was urban as of 2011. This district was separated from Chitradurga district in 1997 by the then Chief minister of Karnataka J. H. Patel including Chennagiri and Honali Taluks Shimoga district.
