H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University
H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University is a Ukrainian university in Kharkiv. It was founded in 1933. On the territory of the university there was a monument to the Ukrainian philosopher Hryhorii Skovoroda, which was opened on September 28, 2012, and destroyed on the night of July 6, 2022 (around 00:15) as a result of a missile attack by the Russian army from Belgorod. The premises of Kharkiv National Pedagogical University named after H.S. Skovoroda were also destroyed. Three floors in the central building of the institution collapsed. Also, a 40-year-old watchman of the university died at the scene. Hryhorii Skovoroda, also Gregory Skovoroda or Grigory Skovoroda ( la, Gregorius Scovoroda; uk, Григорій Савич Сковорода, ''Hryhorii Savych Skovoroda''; russian: Григо́рий Са́ввич Сковорода́, ''Grigory Savvich Skovoroda''; 3 December 1722 – 9 November 1794) was a philosopher of Ukrainian Cossack origin who lived and worked in the Russian Empire. The Battle of Kharkiv was a military engagement that took place from February to May 2022 in and around the city of Kharkiv in Ukraine, as part of the northeastern Ukraine offensive and eastern Ukraine offensive during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Kharkiv, located just south of the Russia–Ukraine border and a predominately Russian-speaking city, is the second-largest city in Ukraine and was considered a major target for the Russian military early in the invasion. Katya Soldak (; born 1977 in Kharkiv, Soviet Union (now Ukraine)) is a New-York-based journalist, documentary filmmaker, and author of Ukrainian origin. She is currently the editorial director for Forbes Media's international editions, focussing on Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet territories.
