H-Town Texas Cyclones
The H-Town Texas Cyclones were a team of the Independent Women's Football League. Based in Houston, Texas, Houston, the Cyclones played their home games at Reggie Grob Stadium on the campus of the Spring Branch Independent School District. The Cyclones were the second IWFL team based in Houston, after the Houston Energy. However, while the Energy competes in Tier I, the Cyclones were expected to compete in Tier II. Both teams were to compete for talent and fans with the Women's Football Alliance's Houston Power. In their inaugural season, when they played in the National Women's Football Association the Cyclones defeated the West Michigan Mayhem 39-10 to win the NWFA Championship, the league's last before folding. Their sophomore season (in which they were members of the WFA) was not as successful, as they were only credited two wins that season (both by default when the East Texas Saberkats folded). Independent Women's Football League
The Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) was the first Women's American football league established by women players for women players. The league was founded in 2000, began play in 2001, and played its last season in 2018. Members of the original roster of the Austin Outlaws were the league's founders. Following the establishment of the league as a separate entity from the team, former outlaws players Laurie Frederick, Jaime Bailey and Sandra Plato became the original IWFL executive council. Austin Outlaws
The Austin Outlaws are a women's football team in the Women's Football Alliance. They are based in Austin, Texas. Home games are played at Chaparral Stadium on the campus of Westlake High School (Austin, Texas), Westlake High School. Founded in 2001 as a charter member of the Independent Women's Football League, the Outlaws finished 5–1, good enough for the first IWFL championship (playoffs were not held that year). The following year of 2002, the Outlaws finished 7-2 and made the IWFL playoffs. After defeating the Corvallis Pride in the qualifier, the Outlaws fell 24–4 to the New York Sharks in the championship game. In 2003 the Outlaws moved to the National Women's Football Association, where they would spend their next six seasons. Memphis Belles
The Memphis Belles were a women's professional tackle football team and members of the Independent Women's Football League. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, the Memphis Belles played their 2010 home games at Halle Stadium football field in Memphis, Tennessee. At one point, in their fourth year of operation, the Memphis Belles were the longest-running women's tackle football team in Memphis history. In their inaugural season (2008), the Memphis Belles played in the National Women's Football Association. When the NWFA folded in 2009, the Memphis Belles moved to the Women's Football Alliance. In 2010, the Memphis Belles moved to the Independent Women's Football League, the longest-running and most successful league in the history of Women's Professional Tackle Football, where they made the Midwest Divisional Playoffs. The Dallas Diamonds was a women's professional American football team in the Women's Football Alliance (WFA). The Diamonds were made up of 46 players and a coaching staff of 10. The Diamonds won four national championships; the first three were all obtained during their membership in the Women's Professional Football League (WPFL) which was dissolved in 2008, and the fourth was in their first season in the Independent Women's Football League. History The Diamonds franchise started in 2002 by owner Dawn Berndt. During the inaugural season, the Diamonds finished with a 5–5 record. The Miami Fury is a football team in the Women's Football Alliance. Based in Miami, Florida, the Fury plays its home games at Carter Park. History 2000 The Fury was formed as a charter member of the Women's Professional Football League when it started full-league play in 2000 (previously, it had just been a barnstorming venture between the Lake Michigan Minx and the Minnesota Vixen). The Lone Star Mustangs are a team of the Women's Football Alliance. Based in Bedford Texas (part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex), the Mustangs play their home games at Pennington Field (the campus was formerly M.B. Smiley High School). History The Lone Star Mustangs played their first full season of women's full contact football in 2009 and ended the season at 6-2 after playing the H-Town Texas Cyclones and the Austin Outlaws and missed the playoffs by merely 1 point.
