H. G. Landau
Hyman Garshin Landau (December 18, 1909 – December 2, 1966), more often known as H. G. Landau, was an American mathematical biologist, statistician and sociologist who is known for using mathematical methods such as graph theory to understand animal behavior and social dynamics. After receiving his doctorate in statistics from the University of Pittsburgh, he worked at the Ballistic Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, while teaching part-time at the University of Delaware. He carried out his seminal work on graph tournaments as a research associate at the University of Chicago. Chmielnik, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship
Chmielnik is a town in Kielce County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Poland. As of December 2021, it has a population of 3,557, and lies in historic Lesser Poland. The name of the town is derived from hops, hop ( pl, chmiel). History Chmielnik was first mentioned in connection with the Battle of Chmielnik with Mongols and Tatars fought in the area in 1241 (see First Mongol invasion of Poland, Mongol invasion of Poland). The Mongols and the Tatars were opposed near the settlement by Polish knights from the provinces of Duchy of Sandomierz, Sandomierz and Seniorate Province, Kraków. In the town there is a monument dedicated to this battle. At the beginning the settlement was a property of the dukes of Sandomierz, but in the 13th century it became owned by the Odrowąż family. The oldest monument in the town is the Church of Holy Trinity together with a church graveyard from around 1356. Later on Chmielnik belonged to the Oleśnicki family who made efforts to grant it town charter. ...
