H-L-V School District
The Hartwick-Ladora-Victor Community School District – often abbreviated H-L-V, or HLV – is a rural public school district headquartered in Victor, Iowa. The district spans areas of eastern Poweshiek and western Iowa counties, encompassing the communities of Hartwick, Ladora and Victor. The main school campus is located in Victor. The school building has separate elementary and a junior high wings, and its administrative offices are also located there. The district is governed by a five-member board of directors, which meets monthly. The school district is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Iowa Department of Education. The H-L-V School District was formed in 1958, the result of the merger of three former school districts: Hartwick, Ladora and Victor. Athletic teams are known as the Warriors. Victor, Iowa
Victor is a town in Poweshiek and Iowa counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 875 in the 2020 census, a decline from the population of 952 in 2000. History Victor was laid out in the 1860s. The town was originally called Wilson, after George W. Wilson, who owned the town site. In 1872, the Moravian Church organized a mission in Victor for German-speaking settlers, and nearby organized another mission known as North English, naming this congregation after the nearby English River). The Victor congregation was associated with the larger Harmony Moravian Church, it only being eight miles away. In 1883, Moravian activity here ceased, and the little chapel (former schoolhouse) was sold for $200. Iowa County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,662. The county seat is Marengo. Iowa County is one of seven counties in the United States to share the same name as the state they are located in. Poweshiek County is a county in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,662. The county seat is Montezuma. The county is named for the chief of the Fox tribe who signed the treaty ending the Black Hawk War. It lies along Interstate 80 between Des Moines and Iowa City. South Iowa Cedar League
The South Iowa Cedar League is a high school athletic conference in south central and southeastern Iowa. The conference is made up of mostly 1A schools, as well as a few 2A schools (the two smallest classes in the state). A 9-team league from the 1960s, the conference expanded to 12 teams in 1996, then dropped to 11 members when Williamsburg joined the Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference in 2000. In the fall of 2014, the schools of the SICL voted to allow Colfax–Mingo to join the SICL, making it a 12-team league again. The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA), also known as the North Central Association, was a membership organization, consisting of colleges, universities, and schools in 19 U.S. states engaged in educational accreditation.
