Günter Burghardt
Günter Burghardt, a senior European civil servant and former European Union ambassador to the United States, is a European lawyer and academic. Career Born on 27 April 1941 in Kroßwitz, Provinz Posen, now Krosnievice/Poznan, Burghardt studied law in Hamburg and Strasbourg. He passed his two State exams in Hamburg (Prädikat "Gut") in 1966 and 1970. He became "Lauréat de la Faculté de Droit de l'Université de Strasbourg" in 1963 and performed post-graduate studies at the City of London College in 1970. After earning a "Summa cum laude" PhD in European Community law ( University of Hamburg, 1969), Burghardt joined the European Commission's legal service, where he worked from 1970 to 1972. He then moved to the Commission's External Relations Department as a desk officer for the United States, Canada and Australia under Commissioner Sir Christopher Soames. The Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement is the member of the European Commission in charge of overseeing the accession process of prospective new member states and relations with those bordering the European Union (EU). The present Commissioner, as of December 2019, is Olivér Várhelyi. The German Council of Economic Experts (German: ') is a group of economists set up in 1963 to evaluate economic policies of the German government. The Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC) is a body set up between the United States and European Union to direct economic cooperation between the two economies. Establishment and chairmanship The TEC was established by an agreement signed on April 30, 2007 at the White House by U.S. President George W.
