Gymnastics At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Vault
The men's vault competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held on August 9 and 18 at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium. The eight competitors (with a maximum of two per nation) with the highest scores in qualifying, among the gymnasts electing to make two vaults, proceeded to the men's vault finals. There, each gymnast performed two vaults; the scores from the final round (ignoring qualification) determined final ranking. There were 16 competitors from 13 nations that made a second vault attempt. The event was won by Leszek Blanik of Poland, the nation's first victory in the men's vault. Blanik was the seventh man to win multiple medals in the event, adding to his 2000 bronze. France earned its first medal in the event with Thomas Bouhail's silver. Vlasios Maras ( el, Βλάσης Μάρας, born 31 March 1983 in Athens) is a Greek gymnast. In the 2004 Summer Olympics, he was a favorite in the horizontal bar competition but failed to qualify for the final after finishing 13th in the qualification round. Dmitry Kasperovich (born 15 October 1977) is a Belarusian gymnast. He competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Olympics. He is affiliated with SKA Minsk. Kasperovich is a vault specialist. Kasperovich grew up in Minsk and started to train in gymnastics at the age of six. Since 1995, he was competing internationally, and in 1997, he won a silver medal in the team competition at the 1997 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Benoît Caranobe (born 12 June 1980 in Vitry-sur-Seine) is a French former gymnast who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
