Gyldendal Norsk Forlag
Gyldendal Norsk Forlag AS, commonly referred to as Gyldendal N.F. and in Norway often only as Gyldendal, is one of the largest Norwegian publishing houses. It was founded in 1925 after buying rights to publications from the Danish publishing house Gyldendal, which the company also takes it name from. It was established when a group of Norwegian investors "bought home" the works of "The Four Greats" and Knut Hamsun, which had previously been published by the Danish publishing house Gyldendal. Harald Grieg had a central role in this operation and became the new company's director, and Knut Hamsun provided significant capital and became its largest shareholder. Nils Kåre Jacobsen
Nils Kåre Jacobsen (20 February 1929 – 30 October 2008) was a Norwegian publisher. He was born in Bergen to Oscar Jacobsen and Ragna Walde, and married Berit Scherven in 1957. He died in Bærum in 2008. Jacobsen graduated from the Norwegian School of Economics in 1951. He was manager of the publishing house Gyldendal Norsk Forlag from 1990 to 1995. He was member of the board of the Norwegian Publishers' Association from 1962 to 1972, and from 1990 to 1995. Andreas Skartveit (born 12 January 1937) is a Norwegian journalist, magazine editor and publisher. He was born in Finnøy. He worked for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation from 1962 to 1972. Brikt Jensen (15 September 1928 – 14 November 2011) was a Norwegian publisher, writer, journal editor, professor who also hosted a popular TV program about literature. Jensen was born in Bergen, and was made a PhD in 1964 with a thesis on François Mauriac's ''Ormebolet''. He was editor for the literary magazine ''Vinduet'' from 1964 to 1969. He was manager for the publishing house Gyldendal Norsk Forlag from 1970 to 1980, and senior consultant from 1980 to 1993. Tore Hamsun
Tore Hamsun (6 March 1912 – 10 January 1995) was a Norwegian painter, writer, and publisher born in Hamarøy. He was the son of the Nobel Prize winning novelist Knut Hamsun and actress Marie Hamsun. At the age of five, his family moved from Hamarøy to Nørholm, a large agricultural property. Like the rest of his three siblings, he showed artistic ability at a young age but was the only one to take up a career in art. In 1933, he began Torstein Torsteinssons painting school and studied at an Art Academy in Munich from 1934 to 1935. Hamsun later completed studies at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo and debuted as a painter in 1940. He was remembered for his landscape paintings influenced by French Impressionism. Some of his paintings contained or were based on motifs derived from his father's books. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. The purpose was to co-operate on publishing encyclopaedias and dictionaries. The first volume of Store norske leksikon (SNL) was published in 1978. A total of four editions was published (the last one in 2004), before the online version was transferred to Institusjonen Fritt Ord og Sparebankstiftelsen DnB in 2011. Kunnskapsforlaget is the largest dictionary publisher in Norway. They publish both printed books, and digital dictionaries that are available through the online service Ordnett (launched in 2004).
