Guy Chevrette
Guy Chevrette (born January 10, 1940 in Saint-Come, Quebec) served as Parti Québécois leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Quebec, Canada, from 1987 to 1989. He was the MNA for the riding of Joliette-Montcalm from 1976 to 1981 and Joliette from 1981 to 2002. Biography When former Premier Pierre-Marc Johnson quit politics in 1987 after losing the 1985 election, Chevrette became Leader of the Opposition. In 1988, the PQ elected a new leader, Jacques Parizeau, however Parizeau was not sitting in the National Assembly since he had resigned in 1984. In the 1989 election, Parizeau won a seat and replaced Chevrette as Leader of the Opposition. After the PQ won the 1994 election, Chevrette served in various ministerial posts in the cabinet in the governments of Parizeau, Lucien Bouchard and Bernard Landry. Pierre Paradis
Pierre Paradis (born 16 July 1950) is a politician in the Canadian province of Quebec. He represented Brome-Missisquoi in the National Assembly of Quebec from 1980 to 2018. A member of the Liberal Party, he served as a cabinet minister in the governments of Robert Bourassa, Daniel Johnson Jr. and Philippe Couillard. Paradis's brother, Denis Paradis, is a federal politician who served in the governments of Jean Chrétien, Paul Martin and Justin Trudeau. The Paradis brothers are political allies. He earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ottawa (1973) and later took graduate studies in bills of exchange and business law at the same institution. François Gendron
François Gendron (born November 3, 1944 in Val-Paradis, Quebec) is a politician and teacher in Quebec, Canada. He was a Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Abitibi-Ouest. He has represented the Parti Québécois from 1976 to 2018. Gendron went to the Université Laval and obtained diplomas in pedagogy and administration. He was then a teacher at Cité Étudiante Polyno in La Sarre, a coordinator at the Commission scolaire Lalonde, and an education School counsellor. He was a municipal councillor from 1973 to 1976 in La Sarre and was the founder of the Education Workers Union of Northwestern Quebec in 1967. Parliamentary opposition is a form of political opposition to a designated government, particularly in a Westminster-based parliamentary system. Provincial by-elections were held in Quebec in 2002, on the following dates: April 15 Elections were held in the Quebec provincial electoral districts of Anjou, Saguenay and Viger. They resulted in the election of two Liberals and one ADQ Member to the National Assembly of Quebec. The Liberals unsurprisingly won clear victories in two Montreal-based districts: * Lise Thériault in Anjou; * Anna Mancuso in Viger. Sylvie Lespérance (December 21, 1954 – September 22, 2006) was a politician in Quebec, Canada, who served as the Action démocratique du Québec Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Joliette from 2002 to 2003. Lespérance, who was born in Jonquière, had been a lifelong Liberal supporter months before she first was elected to the National Assembly. She ran unsuccessfully against Parti Québécois (PQ) cabinet member Guy Chevrette in the 1989 and 1998 elections.
