Gutierre Álvarez de Toledo was a Roman Catholic prelate who served as Bishop of Plasencia (1496–1506). Life and career He was the second son of García Álvarez de Toledo, 1st Duke of Alba. On 27 June 1496, Gutierre Álvarez de Toledo was appointed during the papacy of Pope Alexander VI as Bishop of Plasencia. On 28 August 1506, he was appointed during the papacy of Pope Julius II as Archbishop of Seville. It is unlikely that he ever took possession of the archdiocese, as the incumbent Diego de Deza Diego de Deza y Tavera (1444 – 9 June 1523) was a theologian and inquisitor of Spain. Gutierre De Cetina
Gutierre de Cetina (1519–1554) was a Spanish poet and soldier. Biography Cetina was born at Seville. He was the brother of Beltrán and Gregorio de Cetina, lesser known conquistadors. He served under Charles V in Italy and Germany, but retired from the army in 1545 to settle in Seville. Soon afterwards, however, he sailed for Mexico, where he resided for some time, and later returned to Mexico, where he fell victim some date previous to 1560 in Puebla to a ''morte galante''. A follower of Juan Boscán and Garcilaso de la Vega, a friend of Jerónimo Jiménez de Urrea and Baltasar del Alcázar, Cetina adopted the doctrines of the Italian school and, under the name of Vandalio, wrote an extensive series of poems in the newly introduced metres; his sonnets are remarkable for elegance of form and sincerity of sentiment, his other productions being in great part adaptations from Petrarch, Ariosto and Ludovico Dolce. Gutierre De Hevia
Gutierre de Hevia y Valdés, 1704 to 2 December 1772, was a Spanish naval officer who reached the rank of Admiral and became commander of the Spanish Marine Infantry. He was court-martialled for his role in the 1762 capture of Havana but reinstated three years later. Biography Born at Tortona, Italy, he joined the Spanish Navy in 1720. In Cadiz, he was involved in a duel and killed his opponent. He was tried but acquitted, and left for the Americas. He entered service in the Spanish Navy, and was the third man to set foot on enemy territory during the recapture of Oran in 1732. During the War of Jenkins' Ear in 1741, he served in the successful defence of Cartagena de Indias and in 1747 received his first command, the warship ''Nueva España''. In 1759 he commanded the ''Fenix'', part of the convoy that brought the new monarch, Charles III of Spain, from Naples to Spain. Gutierre (or Guter) Fernández (''floruit'' 1084–1117) was a Leonese nobleman who served as the majordomo (1110–17) of Queen Urraca until he was removed after imprisoning the queen's lover. Early years Gutierre was the son of Fernando Ermíldez, lord of Val de Trigueros, and Juliana. Gutierre's family had lands in the valley of the Pisuerga, and they were closely allied with Count Pedro Ansúrez and his family, contributing to Pedro's foundation of Valladolid, and in 1112 he witnessed two donations of Pedro Ansúrez to the monastery of San Isidoro de Dueñas. Gutierre's date of birth is unknown. His parents name him in an act of 1084, and he was an adult in 1086, when he signed as a witness to a royal charter. He visited the court of Alfonso VI in 1089, where he subscribed to a royal charter. His brother, Ermeíldo Fernández, had a palace in Val de Trigueros in 1095. Gutierre Fernández De Castro
Gutierre Fernández de Castro ( flourished 1124–66) was a nobleman and military commander from the Kingdom of Castile. His career in royal service corresponds exactly with the reigns of Alfonso VII (1126–57) and his son Sancho III (1157–58). He served Alfonso as a courtier after 1134 and as majordomo (1135–38). He was the guardian and tutor the young Sancho III from 1145. Before his death he was also briefly the guardian of Sancho's infant son, Alfonso VIII. Gutierre took part in several military campaigns of reconquest against the Almoravid Emirate to the south of Castile. In 1139, on the king's orders, he began the successful Siege of Oreja. More often he was occupied defending the eastern frontier from invasion by Aragon or Navarre, and for this purpose the king invested him with many royal fiefs in this region.
