Gurupi Esporte Clube
Gurupi Esporte Clube, commonly known as Gurupi, is a Brazilian football club based in Gurupi, Tocantins state. They competed three times in the Série C. Gurupi is currently ranked fourth among Tocantins teams in CBF's national club ranking, at 204th place overall. History The club was founded on September 15, 1988. They competed in the Série C in 1995, 1996 and in 2004. Gurupi won the Campeonato Tocantinense in 1996, 1997 and in 2010, when they defeated Araguaína in the final. The club won the Campeonato Tocantinense in 2011, and was invited to compete in the 2011 Série D, but they chose to not compete. Gurupi won the state championship again in 2012 and in 2016. Gurupi
Gurupi, Tocantins is a city and a municipality in the Brazilian state of Tocantins. The estimated population was 87,545 inhabitants in 2020, the third-largest in the state, and the total area of the municipality was 1,836 kmª. The elevation is around 287 meters in the city. Tocantins
Tocantins () is one of the 26 states of Brazil. It is the newest state, formed in 1988 and encompassing what had formerly been the northern two-fifths of the state of Goiás. Tocantins covers and had an estimated population of 1,496,880 in 2014. Construction of its capital, Palmas, began in 1989; most of the other cities in the state date to the Portuguese colonial period. Campeonato Brasileiro Série C
The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C is the third tier of the Brazilian football league system. Unlike the first and second divisions, the Série C is not played in a double round robin system, arguably because many participating teams lack the financial conditions to travel long distances. Thus, the tournament is organized in regional groups and the table prevents teams from distant states from playing each other in the initial rounds. Until 2008, any professional team could apply, but only 64 teams would take part in the tournament. The teams that had been relegated from the Série B in the previous year were joined by teams qualified for each federation state.
