Gunnison Valley Hospital, located in Gunnison, Utah is a rural facility with 25 private beds, 3 Labor/Delivery Rooms, state-of-the-art Operating and Recovery Rooms, Radiology Unit, Labs, Home Health and Hospice and a Cancer Treatment Center in addition to being a Critical Access Hospital (CAH). History The history of the Gunnison Valley Hospital Special Service District dates back to 1932 when the founding doctor, G. Stanford Rees, opened up his doctor's office in Gunnison and began practicing Family Medicine. From that small office in 1932, the practice grew and Rees expanded and built a hospital in Gunnison in the 1940s. That hospital was the first hospital in the entire county of Sanpete. In 1970 the hospital moved to a new building and new location, which is the location where the hospital still resides. Gunnison is a city in the Sevier Valley in southwestern Sanpete County, Utah, United States. The population was 3,509 at the 2020 census. The city was named in honor of John W. Gunnison, a United States Army officer who surveyed for the transcontinental railroad in 1853. History 2007 gas spill In the summer of 2007, over of gasoline leaked from a storage tank beneath the Top Stop gas station, located on the corner of South Main and East Center and owned by Wind River Petroleum. Critical Access Hospital
The Critical Access Hospital program is a United States federal program established in 1997 as part of the Balanced Budget Act. The program aims to offer small hospitals in rural areas to serve residents that would otherwise be a long distance from emergency care. As of January 2018, there are 1,343 certified Critical Access Hospitals in 45 states. Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Rhode Island do not have any CAHs.
