Gunnar Christie Wasberg
Gunnar Christie Wasberg (21 February 1923 – 27 January 2015) was a Norwegian historian, philosopher and first librarian at the University of Oslo Library. Biography Wasberg was born in the parish of Brunlanes at Larvik in Vestfold, Norway. He took the doctorate (fil.dr.) at Uppsala University in 1963 with the thesis ''Forsvarstanke og suverenitetsprinsipp''. From 1967 to 1989 he was the prime librarian at the University Library of Oslo. Wasberg held a guest professorship at University of Wisconsin, Madison. He also had other research engagement, and he was a guest lecturer, at a number of universities in Europe and in the United States. Wasberg published about sixty books about history of ideas, political ideologies, industrial and maritime history, press history, military history, and local history (mainly about the Larvik district). University Of Oslo Library
The University of Oslo Library ( no, Universitetsbiblioteket i Oslo, UBO) is a library connected to the University of Oslo. Like the university, it was established in 1811 with Georg Sverdrup as the first head librarian. It originally doubled as the Norwegian national library, and was located at the old University of Oslo campus. In 1913 the current library building in ''Henrik Ibsens gate'' was completed. Head librarian at the time, from 1876 to 1922, was Axel Drolsum. In 1989 the institution National Library of Norway was established. It finally took over the national library tasks from the University Library in 1998, allowing the latter to concentrate on university matters. King's Medal Of Merit
The King's Medal of Merit (Norwegian: ''Kongens fortjenstmedalje'') is a Norwegian award. It was instituted in 1908 to reward meritorious achievements in the fields of art, science, business, and public service. It is divided in two classes: gold and silver. The medal in gold is rewarded for extraordinary achievements of importance to the nation and society. The medal in silver may be awarded for lesser achievements. The medal is suspended from a ribbon in the colours of the Royal Standard of Norway. The medal in gold is ranked eighth in the ranking of Norwegian orders and medals. Brunlanes
Brunlanes is a parish and former municipality within Larvik municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. It was annexed by Larvik on January 1, 1988. The administrative centre of the municipality was located in the adjacent villages of Nevlunghavn and Helgeroa. Arguably the best soil in Vestfold County can be found in Brunlanes, and farming is the main industry with considerable vegetable- and corn cultivation. It is home to Berg Old Church at Berg, which was erected in the 1100s, but laid in ruins by the 1960s. The church had been rebuilt and features a clear-cut architecture with a red tilestone roof. History The parish of Brunlagnæs was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Small parts of Brunlanes were moved to Larvik in 1875 and to the neighboring municipality Stavern in 1883, 1938, 1949 and 1969.
