Lemuel Gulliver () is the fictional protagonist and narrator of ''Gulliver's Travels'', a novel written by Jonathan Swift, first published in 1726. In ''Gulliver's Travels'' According to Swift's novel, Gulliver was born in Nottinghamshire c. 1661, where his father had a small estate; the Gulliver family is said to have originated in Oxfordshire, however. He supposedly studied for three years (c. 1675-1678) at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, leaving to become an apprentice to an eminent London surgeon; after four years (c. 1678-1682), he left to study at the University of Leiden, a prominent Dutch university and medical school. He also educated himself in navigation and mathematics, leaving the University around 1685. ''Gulliver's Travels'', or ''Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World. In Four Parts. By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of Several Ships'' is a 1726 prose satire by the Anglo-Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift, satirising both human nature and the "travellers' tales" literary subgenre. It is Swift's best known full-length work, and a classic of English literature. Swift claimed that he wrote ''Gulliver's Travels'' "to vex the world rather than divert it". ''Brian Gulliver's Travels'' is a satirical comedy series and also a novel created and written by Bill Dare, first broadcast on 21 February 2011 on BBC Radio 4. A second series first broadcast on 25 June 2012 on BBC Radio 4 Extra. The series is a modern pastiche of the Jonathan Swift novel ''Gulliver's Travels''. Plot The series revolves around the character Brian Gulliver, played by Neil Pearson. Gulliver is a travel documentary presenter who at the beginning of series is revealed to have been missing for six years, claiming to have travelled to the previously undiscovered continent of Clafrenia. His stories lead him to being put in psychiatric hospital where they believe that he is suffering some sort of delusion. ''The Stars My Destination'' is a science fiction novel by American writer Alfred Bester. Set in the 24th or 25th century, which varies between editions of the book, when humans have colonized the Solar System, it tells the story of Gully ulliverFoyle, a teleporter driven by a burning desire for revenge. Its first publication was in book form in June 1956 in the United Kingdom, where it was titled ''Tiger! Gulliver is a suburb in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the Gulliver had a population of 2,825 people. History Gulliver is situated in the traditional Wulgurukaba Aboriginal country. The suburb is named after Thomas Allen Gulliver, the telegraph master of Townsville. It is unclear when the Holy Family Catholic Primary School opened in Gulliver, but it closed on 11 December 1987. It was then amalgamated with St John Fisher's Christian Brothers College ( Currajong) and St Margaret Mary's Primary School ( Hermit Park) to create The Marian School which opened on 21 January 1988 in Currajong. Gulliver River
The Gulliver River is a river in the Fiordland area of New Zealand. It starts in the Darran Mountains near the Grave-Talbot Pass, and flows north and then west into the Cleddau River, which runs into Milford Sound. The river was named in 1906 by W.G. Grave for Alf Grenfell, who had a nickname of "Gulliver". A track along the Gulliver River from the Cleddau is suitable for day walks in summer and autumn and can be extended on the Grave Talbot Track into the Espereance valley, past the high De Lambert Falls and over the Grave Talbot Pass.
