The Gulf of Asinara is a sea sector included between the Asinara Island, Cape Falcone and the town of Castelsardo, in northern Sardinia, Italy. The communes facing its coast include also Stintino, Porto Torres, Sassari, Sorso, Valledoria and Badesi. Platamona (Sassarese: "Pratamona or Prattamona") is a coastal area in northern Sardinia, Italy, located along the Gulf of Asinara, in the municipality of Sassari, between the commune of Sorso and Porto Torres. The name ''Platamona'' comes from the Greek ''platamon-onos'', that means flat surface. It is constituted by a beach of white sand and shells, surrounded from a wood of maritime pines and thousand-year trees of junipers, and a retro-dunal lagoon, where you can practise birdwatching and fishing. Valledoria (Gallurese: ''Codaruìna'', sc, Codaruìna, Sassarese: ''Codaruìna'') is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Sassari situated at the center of the Gulf of Asinara, near the mouth of the Coghinas river. History Valledoria was part of the giudicato of Torres, and was later acquired by the Genoese family of Doria. Porto Torres ( sdc, Posthudorra, sc, Portu Turre) is a comune and a city of the Province of Sassari in north-west of Sardinia, Italy. Founded during the 1st century BC as ''Colonia Iulia Turris Libisonis'', it was the first Roman colony of the entire island.
