Guildford High School
Guildford High School is an independent day school for girls that was founded in 1888. Approximately 1,000 girls between ages 4 to 18 attend the school from Guildford and its surrounding towns and villages. The school comprises a Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form. History From the beginning, Guildford High School, founded by the Church Schools Company in 1788, was a progressive school. While some early girls' schools were designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of prospective governesses, Guildford High School sought to provide a feminine counterpart to the reformed public schools for boys. The current site on London Road was completed in 1893 and is still in use. During the post-World War II years, the school underwent rapid expansion. Claire Phillips (artist)
Claire Phillips (born 1963 in Hammersmith, England) is a British portrait artist, whose paintings generally have a social or political narrative. Her portraits of prisoners on death row and children rescued from slave labour have received wide media coverage. Education Phillips was educated at Brunel University London (1982–1986) and Northbrook College in West Sussex (1999–2004). Works Phillips is a social narrative portrait painter. Her works tell stories about the subjects, encouraging the viewer to consider social and political themes. The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) is approved by the Secretary of State for Education – under section 106 of the Education and Skills Act 2008 – to inspect independent schools in England. These schools are members of associations, which form the Independent Schools Council. Role and remit ISI is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, with a board of independent directors. Julia Wilson-Dickson (2 August 1949 – 16 October 2015) was a British voice and dialect coach whose students included some of the best known actors in film and theater. Early life and education Wilson-Dickson was born in Brighton to Philip Wilson-Dickson, a civil servant in the Home Office, and Olivia (née Rudder), an actress. Alexandra Mary, Lady Wedgwood, (née Gordon Clark; born 30 July 1938) is an English architectural historian and expert on the work of Augustus Pugin.
