Joseph Benoît Guichard (14 November 1806, Lyon - 31 May 1880, Lyon) was a French painter and art teacher who worked in a variety of styles. Biography His parents were the owners of a wallpaper shop. Around 1818, he began to study drawing at the Palais Saint-Pierre (now the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon) with the intention of becoming a draftsman. Many of his classes were taught in a strict Academic style by Pierre Révoil and Fleury François Richard. His first publicly displayed work was a picture of his grandmother. This formal style did not suit him, however. In 1824, he and a friend from school, Paul Chenavard, left the Palais and took classes from the sculptor, Jean-François Legendre-Héral instead. In 1827, he decided to go to Paris, where he met Hippolyte Flandrin and his brother, Paul Jean Flandrin. Karl Gottlieb Guichard (1724–1775) also known as Quintus Icilius, was a soldier and military writer. Life He was born at Magdeburg, Duchy of Magdeburg, to a family of French refugees. He was educated for the Church, and at Leiden actually preached a sermon as a candidate for the pastorate. But he abandoned theology for more secular studies, especially that of ancient history, in which his learning attracted the notice of the Prince of Orange, who promised him a vacant professorship at Utrecht. On his arrival, however, he found that another scholar had been elected by the local authorities, and he thereupon sought and obtained a commission in the Dutch army. He made the campaigns of 1747-48 in the Low Countries. In the peace which followed, his combined military and classical training turned his thoughts in the direction of ancient military history. Olivier Guichard (; 27 July 1920 – 20 January 2004) was a French politician. He was born in Néac and joined the French Army in 1944 and served until the end of World War II, during which, he earned the Médaille militaire and the Croix de guerre. At the end of his life he also was a grand officer of the Légion d'honneur. In 1947, he joined the gaulliste mouvement. He occupied various local elected offices. He has been a member of parliament and several time minister. From 1969 until 1972, he was Minister of National Education. Between 1972 and 1974, he was Minister of Public Works. And between 1976 and 1977, he was Minister of Justice. Between 1967 and 1968, he was a member of the Union pour la nouvelle République, then between 1968 and 1978 he was a member of the Union of Democrats for the Republic and finally from 1978 until 1997 he was a member of the Rally for the Republic.
