Guatire is a city in Miranda (state), Miranda, Venezuela. In 2006, its population has been estimated at 200,417. Today, Guatire has virtually merged with its neighbour, Guarenas forming the Guarenas-Guatire conurbation. Guarenas is a city in Miranda, Venezuela. It was established in 1621 as ''Nuestra Señora de Copacabana de los Guarenas''. Francisco Javier Álvarez (born November 19, 2001) is a Venezuelan professional baseball catcher for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB). Career Álvarez signed with the New York Mets as an international free agent in July 2018. He spent his first professional season in 2019 with the Gulf Coast Mets and Kingsport Mets, batting .312 with seven home runs and 26 runs batted in (RBI) over 42 games with both teams. Álvarez did not play a minor league game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Mets invited Álvarez to their spring training in 2021. Miguel Ángel Pérez (born September 25, 1983) is a Venezuelan former professional baseball catcher. He played in Major League Baseball for the Cincinnati Reds. Professional baseball career Born in Guatire, Venezuela, Pérez was signed by the Cincinnati Reds in November 2000. He began his professional career in 2001, and spend the next seven seasons in the Reds' farm system. He opened the season with Single-A Sarasota and hit .268 in 80 games before being promoted to Triple-A Louisville, where he hit .208 in 21 games. He made his major league debut with Cincinnati on September 7, 2005. In two games he went 0-for-3. After the season, Pérez became a free agent. Sara Bendahan
Sara Rosa M. Bendahan (1906–1946) was a physician and the first Venezuelan woman to complete her medical degree in that country. She was born in Guatire in February 1906, and her parents were Moroccan Jewish immigrants. Biography In September 1924 she began studying at the Central University of Venezuela. In her third year of studying medicine she suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis and went to Los Teques to recover, but did not stop studying and passed her third year (of six) exams. However, due to the deaths of family and friends she initially left medical school without graduating, needing only to complete her thesis and examination. She did this and graduated as a doctor on July 31, 1939, from Central University of Venezuela. She was appointed by her graduating classmates to give the speech at the ceremony where she was awarded the title, Doctor of Medical Sciences, becoming the first Venezuelan woman to earn that degree in her country.
