Guardians Of The Flame (band)
''Guardians of the Flame'' is a portal fantasy series by author Joel Rosenberg, and arguably his best-known work. The series is about a group of college students who participate in a fantasy role-playing game, and are magically transported to the world of the game by their gamemaster. The first book, ''The Sleeping Dragon'', focuses on the former students struggling to survive in the world of the game. The series progresses with the students choosing to live in the 'game world' and forming their own community, which is in part based on opposition to the ubiquitous slave trade. The series then expands upon the students' "Home" in the fantasy realm and their effecting societal change. In the later books, the focus shifts from efforts to destroy the slave trade and on to various characters dealing with the changes in the fantasy world wrought by the former students (now mostly 40-somethings). Joel Rosenberg (science Fiction Author)
Joel Rosenberg (May 1, 1954 – June 2, 2011) was a Canadian American science fiction and fantasy author best known for his long-running " Guardians of the Flame" series. Rosenberg was also a gun rights activist. He is the oldest brother of ''Miami Herald'' reporter Carol Rosenberg. Writing career Rosenberg began publishing in 1978 with an op-ed piece in ''The New York Times'' favoring nuclear power. His stories appeared in ''Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine'', ''Amazing Science Fiction'', and TSR's '' The Dragon''. His novels have been published by Roc, Avon, Berkley, Tor and Baen Books. Fantasy His first published fiction, "Like the Gentle Rains", appeared in ''Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine'' in 1982. Gamemaster
A gamemaster (GM; also known as game master, game manager, game moderator, referee, or storyteller) is a person who acts as an organizer, officiant for regarding rules, arbitrator, and moderator for a multiplayer role-playing game. They are more common in co-operative games in which players work together than in competitive games in which players oppose each other. The act performed by a gamemaster is sometimes referred to as "Gamemastering" or simply "GM-ing". The role of a gamemaster in a traditional table-top role-playing game (pencil-and-paper role-playing game) is to weave the other participants' player-character stories together, control the non-player aspects of the game, create environments in which the players can interact, and solve any player disputes.
