Guanshan, Taitung
Guanshan Township () is an urban township in northern Taitung County, Taiwan. History Formerly called ''Lilong'', which is from the Amis word meaning "red worms" and rendered in Hokkien as A-lí-lóng (阿里壟). By 1920, the town was called Kanzan Town under Kanzan District, Taitō Prefecture. Geography It is located in the Huatung Valley South segment. Beinan River flows through. In the east it is bordered by the Hai'an Range and in the west by the Central Mountain Range. Guanshan has a Tropical Monsoon Climate. Annual rainfall is 2,000 mm with an average temperature of 23.7 degrees Celsius. Covering an area of 58.735 km2, Guanshan has a population of 8,160 people (as of February 2023). Administrative divisions Guanshan Township consists of 7 villages, namely Chungfu, Fengchuan, Hsinfu, Lilong, Tekao, Tienkuan and Yuemei, and 135 neighborhoods. Townships are the third-level administrative subdivisions of counties of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with county-administered cities. After World War II, the townships were established from the following conversions on the Japanese administrative divisions: Although local laws do not enforce strict standards for classifying them, generally urban townships have a larger population and more business and industry than rural townships, but not to the extent of county-administered cities. Under townships, there is still the village as the fourth or basic level of administration. Lo Hsien-che
Major general Lo Hsieh-che () was the head of the electronic communications and information department in the Republic of China Army until his arrest in early 2011 on charges of spying for the People's Republic of China. Lo is reported to be the highest-ranking officer arrested for allegedly spying for China, and thus represents Taiwan's worst espionage case in 50 years. Taiwan military court sentenced Lo to life imprisonment on 26 April 2012. Biography Lo was born in 1959 into a military family. His father is a Chinese veteran and his mother is from Penghu, Taiwan. Kong Jaw-sheng
Kong Jaw-sheng (; 29 March 1955 – 18 March 2016) was a Taiwanese banker. He served as the first chairman of the Financial Supervisory Commission from 2004 to 2006. He was born in Guanshan, Taitung. Career Kong worked for the Development Bank of Singapore from 1983 to 1987. In 1991, he joined UBS Taiwan, before leaving in 1995 to found the Taiwan branch of the Lehman Brothers. He then led the Taiwan sector of Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette starting in 1999, which was acquired by Credit Suisse First Boston. Kong left CSFB in 2002, becoming a member of the board for both the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation and the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation in 2003. The Guanshan Waterfront Park () is a park in Guanshan Township, Taitung County, Taiwan. History The park was built in 1999 from the previous dumping ground. Geology The park spans over an area of 34 hectares. One-third of the park consists of a lake and the remaining two-thirds is the park area. The water for the lake comes from a subterranean river.
