Guangyang Secondary School
Guangyang Secondary School is a co-educational government secondary school in Bishan, Singapore. It merged with Braddell-Westlake Secondary School in 2006. History Kong Yiong High School (1986) Guangyang Secondary School has its humble origins in Kong Yiong High School which was located in Yio Chu Kang.However, in 1986, Kong Yiong High School was closed due to a sharp drop in school enrolment. Guangyang Secondary School (1987–2005) In 1987, the School Advisory Committee of Kiong Yong High School left a sum of about S$60,000 which was to be given to a school that adopted its name. While the new school was being set up in Bishan, it was decided that the old dialect name "Kong Yiong" be used. Hence, the new school came to be known as "Guangyang" which is the '' hanyu pinyin'' equivalent of "Kong Yiong". Bishan, Singapore
Bishan (), also known as either Bishan New Town or Bishan Town, is a planning area and matured residential town located at the northernmost portion of the Central Region of Singapore. Statistically, the area is ranked the 38th biggest in terms of geographical size and the 22nd most populated planning area in the country. It is located at the most Central point of Singapore, and it comprises Upper Thomson, Marymount, Shunfu, Sin Ming, Bishan North and Bishan East. There are also many private residential properties in Bishan. Bishan is ranked 15th in terms of population density. Yio Chu Kang
Yio Chu Kang is a sub-urban area in the northeast of Singapore, with proximity to the Ang Mo Kio, Lentor, Seletar and Sengkang areas. Deriving its name from the Yio Chu Kang Village, it is still known for lush greenery and low-density housing with high-rise public housing in its southern fringes. Background The name Yio Chu Kang, similar to Choa Chu Kang and Lim Chu Kang did not come from names of famous people unlike many other road names in Singapore. The word 'Kang' - means river, while 'Chu' was apparently a clan. The word 'Chu' itself means "owner" or "land". The clan was hence named Kangchu because it was controlled by the Chu clan and they were situated around a river. Hanyu Pinyin
Hanyu Pinyin (), often shortened to just pinyin, is the official romanization system for Standard Mandarin Chinese in China, and to some extent, in Singapore and Malaysia. It is often used to teach Mandarin, normally written in Chinese form, to learners already familiar with the Latin alphabet. Secondary education in Singapore is largely public, and is compulsory until a child has reached 16 years of age. At the end of public primary education, Singapore students take the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) and are placed into the different streams and secondary schools based on their results. There are three main public secondary education streams: ''Express'', ''Normal (Academic)'' (N(A)), and ''Normal (Technical)'' (N(T)), with special and private education courses also being available. Toa Payoh (, ta, தோ பாயோ) is a planning area and matured residential town located in the northern part of the Central Region of Singapore. Toa Payoh planning area borders Bishan and Serangoon to the north, the Central Water Catchment to the northwest, Kallang to the south, Geylang to the southeast, Novena to the west and Hougang to the east. Toa Payoh New Town is situated in the western portion of the Toa Payoh planning area. The latter occupies a much larger area, encompassing estates such as Potong Pasir and Bidadari. Braddell-Westlake Secondary School
Braddell-Westlake Secondary School is a former government secondary school located in the area of Braddell, Singapore. History Braddell-Westlake Secondary School was formed from a merger between Braddell Secondary School and Westlake Secondary School in 2000 in order to boost falling enrollment in both separate schools. Located along Braddell Road, it occupied the former premises of its two component schools and had the distinction of being one of the few secondary schools in Singapore to occupy two separate campuses. This created obvious benefits to the students, who then had the facilities of two schools at their disposal, such as two canteens, two assembly-halls and a large combined school-field. Gabriel Quak Jun Yi (, born 22 December 1990) is a Singaporean professional footballer who plays as a winger for the Singapore national team. Club career Young Lions Quak began his professional football career with Under-23 side Young Lions in the S.League in 2008.
