Guadalupe (Santa Cruz Da Graciosa)
Guadalupe is a civil parish in the municipality of Santa Cruz da Graciosa, on the island of Graciosa in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. The population in 2011 was 1,096, occupying an area of . History The fertile lands were first settled in the early 16th century, resulting in narrow parcels radiating from north to south. Guadalupe became the centre of cereal production on the island, with the lands acquired by many of the principal families of Santa Cruz. Consequently, many of the great houses obtained their wealth from the fields and pasturelands in the west. Graciosa Island () (literally "graceful" or "enchanting" in Portuguese) is referred to as the ''White Island'', the northernmost of the Central Group of islands in the Azores. The ovular Portuguese island has an area of , a length of and a width of . It is a volcanic island, dominated by a central caldera (the Caldeira) located in the southeast. Santa Cruz Da Graciosa
Santa Cruz da Graciosa () is a Portuguese municipality on the island of Graciosa, in the archipelago of the Azores. The population in 2011 was 4,391, in an area of 60.66 km². It includes four local parishes and one municipal government structure, which administers the entire island. History While the date of its first discovery is uncertain, it is known that its first settlers arrived from the island of Terceira around 1450. One of the first settlers was Vasco Gil Sodre. The early settlement was primarily agrarian, but by 1486 its population had grown sufficiently to warrant the founding of the ''vila'' (or town) of Santa Cruz in 1486, while Praia lost this role. Between the 16th-17th century, Graciosa was regularly attacked by pirates and privateers, which obliged the local government to construct fortifications along the island's coast for defense. Concelho () is the Portuguese-language term for municipality, referring to the territorial subdivision in local government. In comparison, the word ''município'' () refers to the organs of State. Ludwik Idzikowski
Ludwik Idzikowski (August 24, 1891 – July 13, 1929) was a Polish military aviator. He died during a transatlantic flight trial. Early life and service Ludwik Idzikowski was born in Warsaw. He started mining studies in Liège, Belgium. At the outbreak of World War I, he was conscripted into the Russian Army. He completed aviation school in Sevastopol, and from 1916 served in air combat units as an officer pilot. After the October Revolution he managed to return to Warsaw and in November 1918 Idzikowski joined the newly-born Polish Army, in the rank of ''podporucznik pilot'' (flying 2nd Lieutenant). In 1919 he joined the Polish Air Force and during the Polish-Soviet War, initially flew with the 7th fighter escadre (" Kościuszko Squadron"), crewed mostly by American volunteers, then the 6th reconnaissance escadre.
