Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition For Conductors
The Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors (Polish: ''Międzynarodowy Konkurs Dyrygentów im. Grzegorza Fitelberga'') is one of Poland's premier conducting competitions. Named in honour of Grzegorz Fitelberg (1879–1953), the competition was admitted as a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) based in Geneva IN 1980. The Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors was founded in 1979 by Karol Stryja, student of Fitelberg and director of the Silesian Philharmonic, who led all its editions until his death in 1998. According to composer Witold Lutosławski: "Fitelberg made a large contribution to Poland’s composing heritage. He was a pivotal figure in promoting young Polish music, without whom creators of the time would not have been able to develop their talents and gain necessary experience". Grzegorz Fitelberg
Grzegorz Fitelberg (18 October 1879 – 10 June 1953) was a Polish conductor, violinist and composer. He was a member of the Young Poland group, together with artists such as Karol Szymanowski, Ludomir Różycki and Mieczysław Karłowicz. Life and career Fitelberg was born into a Jewish family (father Hozjasz Fitelberg, mother Matylda Pintzof, sister Leja Wacholder, 1881–1941, were all murdered in the Holocaust), in Daugavpils, Russian Empire (now Latvia). Between 1906–07, he performed several times at the Berlin Philharmonic. In 1908 he conducted in the Warsaw Opera, and between 1912–13 in the Vienna State Opera. During the first war he collaborated with Ballets Russes; he conducted the first performance of Igor Stravinsky's ''Mavra'' at the Opéra Garnier in Paris. Jan Krenz
Jan Krenz (14 July 1926 – 15 September 2020) was a Polish composer and orchestra conductor. Biography During World War II, Krenz studied piano with Zbigniew Drzewiecki and composition with Kazimierz Sikorski. From 1945 to 1947, he studied at the Academy of Music in Łódź, conducting with Kazimierz Wiłkomirski and composing with Sikorski. In 1949, Krenz began serving under Grzegorz Fitelberg as deputy conductor at the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. After Fitelberg's death, Krenz became director of the orchestra from 1953 to 1968. In 1968, he became artistic director of the Grand Theatre in Warsaw, and was General Director of Music in Bonn from 1979 to 1982. Eugene Tzigane (IPA – Ju:dʒi:n tsi'ga:n) (real name: Gene McDonough) is a symphonic and operatic conductor. He's serving as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of Kuopio Symphony Orchestra in Kuopio, Finland, since 2023. Biography Tzigane was born in Japan. Aleksandar Marković (born in Belgrade, August 7, 1975) is a Serbian conductor. Marković studied conducting at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst (Vienna), in the class of Leopold Hager. Achim Fiedler (born 1965) is a German conductor. Uri Mayer
Uri Mayer (born August 4, 1946, in Târgu Mureș, Romania) is Romanian-born Canadian violist and conductor. Mayer moved to Israel at a young age, and studied at the Conservatory of Music of Tel-Aviv and the University of Tel-Aviv. His conducting debut took place in 1964 while he was still in high school. He was Assistant Conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Israel (1964–1970), and was a member of the Israel Philharmonic (1967–1968). After winning a scholarship in 1968, he moved to New York City to study with Jean Morel at the Juilliard School. Claus Peter Flor
Claus Peter Flor (born 16 March 1953, Leipzig) is a German conductor. Flor studied violin and clarinet at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Zwickau. He continued his music studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Weimar and the HMT Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig. Jorma Panula
Jorma Juhani Panula (born 10 August 1930) is a Finnish conductor, composer, and teacher of conducting. He has mentored many Finnish conductors, such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Mikko Franck, Sakari Oramo, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Osmo Vänskä and Klaus Mäkelä. Career Panula was born in Kauhajoki.
