Grupo Montparnasse
The Grupo Montparnasse was an organization of Chilean artists who had joined the gathering of great artists in the Montparnasse Quarter of Paris, France, in the early part of the 20th century. Founding members, Luis Vargas Rosas and Camilo Mori among others, exhibit in the Salon d'Automne of 1920 in Paris where they meet Juan Gris, Pablo Picasso and other artists experimenting in the new trends of the time like cubism and expressionism. The group's first exhibition was organized by Luis Vargas Rosas in Santiago in 1923. Their first exhibition was marked by postimpressionist influences, notably the works of Paul Cézanne. Their "Salón de Junio" in 1925 saw a new generation of young painters join the group. Just as their comrades in Paris had, these creative men and women challenged the norms in Chilean painting, profoundly shaping a new world of art in their country. Chile

Ana Cortés
Ana Emma del Rosario Cortés Jullian, more commonly known as Ana Cortés (24 August 1895 – 5 January 1998), was a Chilean painter of the Grupo Montparnasse. In 1974, she won the National Prize of Art of Chile, making her the first painter to do so. Biography Ana Cortés was born in Santiago, Chile on 24 August 1895, the third of seven children Ernesto Cortés Ramirez and Ana Jullian Chesi. She studied in the home of Madame Lasaulce as a child, then lived for three years in Paris with her godparents, Alejandro Bertrand and Mercedes Vidal. Returning to Chile, she completed her studies at La Serena High school. In 1919, Cortés enrolled in the University of Chile's and was taught by Frenchmen Juan Francisco González and Ricardo Richon-Brunet. This would have an important effect on her career. Álvaro Yáñez Bianchi
Juan Emar is the pen name of the Chilean writer, artist and critic Álvaro Yáñez Bianchi (1893–1964). He was the son of a politician and diplomat, and split his time between Santiago and Paris. In Paris, he associated with the avant-garde artists of the Dadaist and Surrealist movements. He published four books between 1935 and 1937 – ''Un año'', ''Miltín'', ''Ayer'' and ''Diez'' – but was met with critical indifference. His works were rediscovered after his death, and his reputation has grown in recent decades as a precursor of modernist literature in Latin America. ''Ayer'' has been published in English translation by Peirene Press. His magnum opus ''Umbral'', which totals over 4,000 pages in the Spanish edition, remains untranslated. Henriette Petit (pseudonym of Ana Enriqueta Petit Marfan; March 3, 1894 - December 9, 1983), was a Chilean painter, member of the Grupo Montparnasse, of which she was a co-founder. Biography Ana Enriqueta Petit Marfan was born in Santiago, March 3, 1894. She began her career in the early 1910s, when she became a disciple of Juan Francisco González -considered one of the four "great masters of Chilean painting"- whom she met through her friend, the also painter, Marta Villanueva. Manuel Ortiz de Zárate Pinto (October 9, 1887 – October 28, 1946) was a Chilean painter, born in Italy and raised in Chile. He was active from 1902 to 1945, in Paris and in Italy. He came from an old Castilian family from Province of Ávila, the son of composer, Eleodoro Ortiz de Zárate and of Matilde Pinto Benavente.
