Grosvenor () is a surname derived from Hugh d'Avranches, Earl of Chester, Hugh Le Grand Veneur, a member of a Norman French family that aided William the Conqueror in 1066. Grosvenor Rowing Club
__NOTOC__ Grosvenor Rowing Club is based on the Groves in Chester. It rows on the River Dee and has around 30 km of rowable river, much of which straight and broad. The club colours are dark blue and orange. History Grosvenor or is named in honour of the Grosvenor family who own the land on which the club is built. The club names its eights (8+s) after members of the family. The club was formed in 1869 to enable the less fortunate people of Chester to take up the sport of rowing. The club's crest states "Virtus non stemma" which translates to "Valor, not garland" or "Virtue, not pedigree" derived from the motto of the Duke of Westminster's Eaton Hall home (hist. Grosvenor Street is a street in the central business district of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. Grosvenor Street runs in an east to west direction, with traffic flowing in both directions. The eastern terminus is at George Street and the western terminus is at the junction of York Street with the Bradfield Highway. There are no major cross streets. South Tyneside College is a large further education college in South Tyneside in North East England. Its main site is in the town of South Shields. The college offers part-time and full-time courses for young students and adults. It was formed in 1984 by the merger of Hebburn Technical College and the Marine and Technical College, the latter founded in 1861 by a trust created by Dr Thomas Winterbottom, a former surgeon-general in Sierra Leone. The Grosvenor Mountains () are a group of widely scattered mountains and nunataks rising above the Antarctic polar plateau east of the head of Mill Glacier, extending from Mount Pratt in the north to the Mount Raymond area in the south, and from Otway Massif in the northwest to Larkman Nunatak in the southeast. They were discovered by Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd on the Byrd Antarctic Expedition flight to the South Pole in November 1929, and named by him for Gilbert Hovey Grosvenor, President of the National Geographic Society, which helped finance the expedition. Several peaks near Mount Raymond were apparently observed by Ernest Shackleton in 1908, although they were then considered to be a continuation of the Dominion Range. Grosvenor House is a twin tower complex in Dubai Marina in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Background The two towers, Grosvenor House West Marina Beach and Grosvenor House The Residence, stand at the same height of 210 metres (690 ft) with 48 floors each. The complex, which is owned by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, is named after the Grosvenor House in London. Grosvenor Grammar School
Grosvenor Grammar School (formerly Grosvenor High School) is an 11–18 co-educational controlled grammar school and sixth form in Belfast, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. History Grosvenor Grammar School was founded in 1945 as Grosvenor High School, by the Belfast Corporation, to cope with the increase in demand for grammar-school education in the area. It was sited in Roden Street, off Grosvenor Road, and remained there until 1958, when the school moved to Cameronian Drive in the east of the city. In 2010, the school moved to its present location, Marina Park. Its headmasters have been William Moles (1945–1972), Ken Reid (1972–1993), John Lockett (1993–2008), and R. S. McLoughlin (2008–2014). Grosvenor Chambers
Grosvenor Chambers, at number 9 Collins Street, Melbourne, contained the first custom-built complex of artists' studios in Australia. The construction costs were almost £6,000 and the building opened in April 1888. The owner was Charles Stewart Paterson (1843-1917). He, in partnership with his brother James, had a high-end decorating business in Melbourne. Another brother was the painter John Ford Paterson who sometimes exhibited with the Heidelberg School artists. The basement atelier was occupied initially by sculptor Percival Ball. The upper floor consisted of five well-lit artists' studios. The ground floor housed the showroom for the Paterson’s decorative arts business. The Grosvenor Centre is a shopping centre in the town centre of Northampton, England. Work started in 1972 and the building opened in 1976. The two-level centre is located adjacent to Market Square, and is owned by Legal & General. In 2014 it underwent a £3 million refurbishment.
