Grey Lag Handicap
The Grey Lag Handicap was an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, New York. Open to horses age three and older, in its final years it was contested on dirt over a distance of one and three-sixteenths miles (9.5 furlongs). Inaugurated on May 10, 1941 at the Jamaica Race Course, the race was named in honor of 1921 American Horse of the Year and U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee, Grey Lag. It was last run in 1999 at Aqueduct Racetrack as a Grade III event. Aqueduct Racetrack
Aqueduct Racetrack is a Thoroughbred horse racing facility and casino in the South Ozone Park, Queens, South Ozone Park and Jamaica, Queens, Jamaica neighborhoods of Queens, New York City, United States. Aqueduct is the only racetrack located within New York City limits. Its racing meets are usually from late October/early November through April. The racetrack is located adjacent to a casino called Resorts World New York City. The track itself has three courses. The main track (dirt) has a circumference of . Stymie (horse)
Stymie (April 4, 1941 − 1962) was an American Thoroughbred Thoroughbred horse race, racehorse. Background Stymie, a chestnut horse with a narrow white Horse markings, blaze was bred by Max Hirsch and was born on King Ranch in Texas. As a young horse, Stymie possessed so terrible a disposition that his ability to race was hampered; his trainer did not see much in him. Therefore, two of Stymie's first three starts were claiming races. On June 2, 1943, Stymie was bought by Hirsch Jacobs, one of the time's leading trainers. Jacobs claimed the horse for $1,500 for his wife Ethel Jacobs. Stymie raced ten more times before winning again. At that point, his record consisted of seven wins out of fifty starts. Droll Role (foaled 1968 in Kentucky) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. He is best known for a series of wins in major North American turf races in 1972, including the Canadian International Stakes and the Washington, D.C. International Stakes Background Droll Role was owned and bred by John M. Schiff. His sire was the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Tom Rolfe, a son of the undefeated European superstar Ribot. His dam was Pradella, whose damsire was Nearco, another undefeated European star and one of the most influential sires of the 20th century. Prove Out (1969–1990) was an American thoroughbred racehorse best known for his wins over Secretariat in the 1973 Woodward Stakes, and Riva Ridge in the 1973 Jockey Club Gold Cup. Background Prove Out was a chestnut horse bred by King Ranch. During his racing career he was trained by H. Allen Jerkens. Prove Out's dam Equal Venture, was a sister of the Triple Crown winner Assault and the granddam of the Eclipse Stakes winner Solford. Royal Glint
Royal Glint (1970–1976) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Royal Glint was a bay gelding bred by Claiborne Farm of Paris, Kentucky. He was sired by U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Round Table and was out of the mare Regal Gleam, the 1966 American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly. Damsire Hail To Reason was the 1960 American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt and the Leading sire in North America in 1970. King's Swan
King's Swan (February 11, 1980 – February 7, 2006) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse nicknamed "The King of Aqueduct" who was so popular with New York City area fans that on his retirement from racing at age ten, he was honored with a retirement ceremony at Aqueduct Racetrack. Background King's Swan was sired by King's Bishop, a son of U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Round Table, and was out of the mare Royal Cygnet. His damsire, Sea-Bird, holds the record for the highest Timeform rating in history.
