Gretna F.C. 2008
Gretna Football Club 2008 (commonly referred to as Gretna 2008 and colloquially as Gretna) is a football club from the town of Gretna. It was founded in 2008 after the bankruptcy and demise of Gretna, which had existed since 1946. Gretna 2008 is not a direct continuation of the old club, being under a completely different management and set-up; the club trades under the name ''Gretna FC 2008 Ltd'' to avoid confusion with the old Gretna. In 2013, the club became founder members of the Lowland League, having previously played in the East of Scotland Football League Premier Division. The team played for most of the 2008–09 season at the Everholm Stadium in Annan. Late in the season, however, the new owners of Raydale Park allowed Gretna 2008 to move to the ground in their home town. Raydale Park
Raydale Park is a football stadium in Gretna, Scotland. It is home to Lowland League side Gretna 2008 and now has a capacity of 1,030. Raydale formerly served as the home ground of Gretna until the club resigned from the Scottish Football League in 2008. History Gretna played their home games at Raydale during their existence in English non-League football and then during their period in the Scottish Football League. However, most of their home matches in the 2007–08 season were played at Fir Park, in Motherwell because Raydale did not meet SPL requirements. This meant a 150-mile round trip for fans from the Gretna area. Gretna also played a UEFA Cup match (a 1–5 defeat to Derry City) at Fir Park because Raydale was inadequate for that competition. The 2008–09 East of Scotland Football League was the 80th season of the East of Scotland Football League. Whitehill Welfare were the defending champions. Daniel Carmichael (born 21 June 1990) is a Scottish professional footballer, who last played for Gretna 2008 as a midfielder. Carmichael has played previously for Queen of the South in two spells, Hibernian, Cumnock Juniors, Workington and East Kilbride. Career Early career After playing as a youth with home-town club Queen of the South, Carmichael joined Workington whilst the club ran a Football Development Centre in tandem with the University of Central Lancashire. Carmichael debuted for the first-team for the Cumbrian club in a Conference North match versus Worcester City in January 2007. Thistle
Thistle is the common name of a group of flowering plants characterised by leaves with sharp prickles on the margins, mostly in the family Asteraceae. Prickles can also occur all over the planton the stem and on the flat parts of the leaves. These prickles are an adaptation that protects the plant from being eaten by herbivores.
