Gregory Ground
The Gregory Ground was a association football, football and cricket ground in Nottingham in England. It was the home of Nottingham Forest between 1885 and 1890. It was also used as a cricket ground by Lenton United in between 1888 and 1969. Nottingham Forest When Nottingham Forest moved there, the pitch was 115 yards by 75 yards. The ground had been levelled and two small wooden stands erected. The pavilion and dressing room from the Parkside Ground had been transported here. The Midland Railway agreed to stop all trains at the nearby Lenton railway station, Lenton Station on match days. Forest played their first match here on 26 September 1885, beating Stoke on Trent 4-0 watched by a crowd of 2000. Tinsley Lindley scored twice. Unwin and Fred Fox scored the others. Lenton, Nottingham
Lenton is an area of the City of Nottingham, in the county of Nottinghamshire, England. Most of Lenton is situated in the electoral ward of 'Dunkirk and Lenton', with a small part in 'Wollaton East and Lenton Park'. Originally a separate agricultural village, Lenton became part of the town of Nottingham in 1877, when the town's boundaries were enlarged. Lenton Railway Station
Lenton railway station was situated on the Midland Railway line on Derby Road in Lenton, Nottingham, England. History Lenton railway station opened on 2 October 1848 with the partial opening of the Midland Railway's line from Nottingham to Mansfield as far as Kirkby. Three passenger trains a day in each direction were provided from Monday to Saturday with two on Sundays. The fare from Nottingham to Lenton was 6d. in first class, 4d in second class, 3d in third class and 1.75d in 4th class. The station was built on Derby Road in Lenton. Originally the road crossed the railway on a level crossing, but by 1886 Nottingham Council were pushing forwards with improvements in the form of a minor diversion of the road over a bridge over the railway. Wells Light
A Wells light was a large paraffin-fuelled (kerosene) blowlamp used for engineering work, particularly for illumination, in Victorian times. At a time before widespread electrical lighting, they were the most common form of high-powered portable illumination used for construction work, particularly railways, civil engineering, shipyards and ironworks. Operation The Wells light was a typical blowlamp in principle, consisting of a floor-standing fuel tank with the burner on a tall post above it. It was distinguished by its large size, the more common plumber's blow lamp being a hand-held tool of about a pint in capacity. Wells lights were made in a number of sizes, the smallest Nº1 being of 800 candlepower with a 15 inch flame. Weighing when filled, it was advertised as "can be carried by a boy". Tinsley Lindley
Dr. Tinsley Lindley OBE (27 October 1865 – 31 March 1940) was an English footballer. He was described as "an ideal centre forward". He scored three goals in his debut aged 16 for Nottingham Forest. The Midland Railway (MR) was a railway company in the United Kingdom from 1844. The Midland was one of the largest railway companies in Britain in the early 20th century, and the largest employer in Derby, where it had its headquarters. It amalgamated with several other railways to create the London, Midland and Scottish Railway at grouping in 1922. The Midland had a large network of lines emanating from Derby, stretching to London St Pancras, Manchester, Carlisle, Birmingham, and the South West. Parkside Ground
The Parkside Ground was a football ground in Nottingham in England. It was the home ground of Nottingham Forest between 1883 and 1885. Forest were forced to leave Trent Bridge cricket ground in 1883 when Notts County replaced them there and they found a field in Lenton Sands to play on at short notice. The new pitch at Parkside had a slope and was uneven, which contrasted with their previous pitch at Trent Bridge. Forest's first game there was a 3–2 victory on 22 September 1883 against Small Heath Alliance (who were to become Birmingham City) watched by 3000 people. Crowds in general though were small at Parkside with one game attracting only 150 spectators.
