Gregers Joensen
Gregers Joensen (December 14, 1835 – June 12, 1897), a.k.a. Grækaris Joensen, was a Faroese teacher and politician. Joensen was born in Eiði.Trap, Jens Peter. 1954. ''Danmark'', vol. 13. Copenhagen: G. E. C. Gad, p. 161. He received a teaching degree in 1871 and was the first person to graduate from the Faroese Teachers School. He worked as a teacher in Eiði until his death in 1897. Eiði
Eiði (''Northern Faroese'' ɔiːjɪ) is a village located on the north-west tip of Eysturoy in the Faroe Islands. It is the seat of Eiði Municipality. It is located 4 km north of Ljósá and 6.5 km west of Funningur. History Eiði was first mentioned in writing early in the 14th Century, though carbon dating indicated that the village was settled by Vikings, in the 9th century. In the center of the village, is Eiði Church. It was founded on September 18, 1881 and was designed in 1879 by Danish architect Hans Christian Amberg. The LORAN-C transmitter Ejde was previously located just east of Eiði. The transmitter was deemed obsolete in 2015 and was turned off for the final time on 1 January 2016 and dismantled three years later. It was an important station for submarine navigation during the Cold War. At its peak in the 1960s, the number of employees at the station was 32. Sports The village's football team is EB/Streymur. Faroese people or Faroe Islanders ( fo, føroyingar; da, færinger) are a North Germanic ethnic group and nation native to the Faroe Islands. The Faroese are of mixed Norse and Gaelic origins. About 21,000 Faroese live in neighbouring countries, particularly in Denmark, Iceland and Norway. Faroese Teachers School
The Faroese Teachers School ( fo, Føroya Læraraskúli) is a college in Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands, which became part of the University of the Faroe Islands on 1 August 2008. Since 2008 it has offered bachelor's degrees in general and specialized education; before 2008, education students did not receive a BA. The school's four-year program in general education qualifies graduates for teaching positions in primary schools and preschools in the Faroe Islands and Denmark. Eysturoy
Eysturoy (pronounced estroimeaning 'East Island') is a region and the second-largest of the Faroe Islands, both in size and population. Description Eysturoy is separated by a narrow sound from the main island of Streymoy. Eysturoy is extremely rugged, with some 66 separate mountain peaks, including Slættaratindur, the highest peak in the archipelago at . The country's two longest fjords, Skálafjørður in the south and Funningsfjørður in the north, almost split the island in two halves. The isthmus in between, Millum Fjarða, is one of the flattest areas in the country.
