Francis Gregory Stafford (February 9, 1948 – October 10, 2018), usually known as Greg Stafford, was an American game designer, publisher, and practitioner of shamanism. Stafford is most famous as the creator of the fantasy world of Glorantha, but he was also a prolific games designer. He was designer of ''Pendragon'', he was co-designer of the ''RuneQuest'', ''Ghostbusters'', Prince Valiant and ''HeroQuest'' role-playing systems, founder of the role-playing game companies Chaosium and Issaries, designer of the '' White Bear and Red Moon'', '' Nomad Gods'', '' King Arthur's Knights'' and '' Elric'' board games, and co-designer of the ''King of Dragon Pass'' computer game. RuneQuest
''RuneQuest'' (commonly abbreviated as RQ) is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game originally designed by Steve Perrin, Ray Turney, Steve Henderson (game designer), Steve Henderson, and Warren James, and set in Greg Stafford's mythical world of Glorantha. It was first published in 1978 by Chaosium, The Chaosium. Beginning in 1984, publication passed between a number of companies, including Avalon Hill, Mongoose Publishing, and The Design Mechanism, before finally returning to Chaosium in 2016. Glorantha
Glorantha is a fantasy world created by Greg Stafford. It was first introduced in the board game '' White Bear and Red Moon'' (1975) by Chaosium and then in a number of other board, roleplaying and computer games, including ''RuneQuest'' and ''HeroQuest'', as well as several works of fiction and the computer strategy game ''King of Dragon Pass''. The Gloranthan world is characterised by its complex use of mythology, heavily influenced by the universalist approaches of Joseph Campbell and Mircea Eliade, its sword and sorcery ethos, its long and distinctive history as a setting for role-playing games, its community development and expansion, and its relative lack of Tolkienesque influence, which is uncommon among early American fantasy role-playing games. Orick, California
Orick (formerly, Arekw, Orekw, and Oreq, Yurok: '' 'O'rekw '') is a census-designated place situated on the banks of the Redwood Creek in Humboldt County, California. It is located north of Eureka, at an elevation of 26 feet (8 m). The population was 357 at the 2010 census. Rare minerals orickite and coyoteite were discovered at Coyote Peak near Orick. History O'rekw means "mouth of the river" in Yurok. Orick evolved from the original word. The Yurok people had 74 known villages in the area, O'rekw was one of five where jumping dances were held. ''Basic Role-Playing'' (''BRP'') is a tabletop role-playing game which originated in the ''RuneQuest'' fantasy role-playing game. Chaosium released the ''BRP'' standalone booklet in 1980 in the boxed set release of the second edition of ''RuneQuest''. Greg Stafford and Lynn Willis are credited as the authors. Chaosium used the percentile skill-based system as the basis for most of their games, including ''Call of Cthulhu (role-playing game), Call of Cthulhu'', ''Stormbringer (role-playing game), Stormbringer'', and ''Elfquest (role-playing game), Elfquest''. Lynn Willis
Lynn Willis (died January 18, 2013) was a wargame and role-playing game designer, best known for his work with Metagaming Concepts, Game Designers' Workshop (GDW), and Chaosium. Biography Willis began by designing science fiction wargames for Metagaming Concepts, starting with ''Godsfire'' in 1976. He designed the MicroGames ''Olympica'' (1978) and ''Holy War'' (1979). Chaosium published '' Lords of the Middle Sea'' (1978), and Willis joined Chaosium in 1978. GDW published '' Bloodtree Rebellion'' (1979). Willis's relationship with Chaosium proved the most enduring; he would turn to role-playing games. He helped founder Greg Stafford trim and refine the ''RuneQuest'' rules into ''Basic Role-Playing'', the rules that would serve as the base for many of Chaosium's RPG lines. Steve Perrin
Stephen Herbert Perrin (January 22, 1946 – August 13, 2021) was an American game designer and technical writer/editor, best known for creating the tabletop role-playing game ''RuneQuest'' for Chaosium. Early life and education Perrin earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from San Francisco State University. In 1966, Perrin was a founding member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). Green Ronin Publishing is an American company based in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 2000 by Chris Pramas and Nicole Lindroos, they have published several role-playing game–related products. They won several awards for their games including multiple Origins, ENnie, Pen & Paper, and Inquest Fan Awards.
