Greg Semu
Greg Semu (born 1971, in Auckland) is a New Zealand-born photographic artist of Samoan descent. In 1995 his exhibition ''O le Tatau Samona / The Tatoo Arts of Samoa'' was the first solo exhibition by a Samoan heritage photographer at Auckland Art Gallery. Career Semu is largely self-taught as an artist and film-maker. In 1994 Semu was included in the landmark exhibition ''Bottled Ocean'' (1994), curated by Jim Vivieaere. His work for ''Bottled Ocean'' was a graffiti-inspired corrugated iron work that reflected on the 'gritty realities of Pacific communities living in suburban Auckland'. In 1994 Semu also directed the music video for New Zealand hip hop group Sisters Underground's classic song ‘In the Neighbourhood’. In 2007 Semu was invited to be the inaugural artist in residence at the newly opened Musee du Quai Branly. Jean-Louis André Théodore Géricault (; 26 September 1791 – 26 January 1824) was a French painter and lithographer, whose best-known painting is ''The Raft of the Medusa''. Although he died young, he was one of the pioneers of the Romantic movement. Early life Born in Rouen, France, Géricault was educated in the tradition of English sporting art by Carle Vernet and classical figure composition by Pierre-Narcisse Guérin, a rigorous classicist who disapproved of his student's impulsive temperament while recognizing his talent. Géricault soon left the classroom, choosing to study at the Louvre, where from 1810 to 1815 he copied paintings by Rubens, Titian, Velázquez and Rembrandt. Elcho Island, known to its traditional owners as Galiwin'ku (Galiwinku) is an island off the coast of Arnhem Land, in the Northern Territory of Australia.
