Greg Lally
Greg Lally (born 7 February 1988) is an Irish hurler who currently plays as a midfielder for the Galway senior team. Born in Gort, County Galway, Lally first played competitive hurling in his youth. He was a key member of the Gort Community School senior team. At club level he is a two-time championship medallist with Gort. Lally made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Galway minor team who won the 2005 All Ireand. An All-Ireland runner-up in this grade in 2006, he later joined the under-21 side. Lally made his senior championship debut during the 2015 championship. On 3 September 2017, Lally was a substitute for Galway as they won their first All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in 29 years against Waterford. Galway ( ; ga, Gaillimh, ) is a City status in Ireland, city in the West Region, Ireland, West of Ireland, in the Provinces of Ireland, province of Connacht, which is the county town of County Galway. All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. For the majority of its existence, the All-Ireland Championship has been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. The 2012 Leinster Senior Hurling Championship Final, the deciding game of the 2012 Leinster Senior Hurling Championship, was a hurling match played on 8 July 2012 at Croke Park, Dublin. Contested by Galway GAA, Galway and Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny, most experts gave the former little chance against the latter. Pre-match Galway were 11/2 outsiders going into this game. The 2017 National Hurling League was the 86th season of the National Hurling League for county teams. The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Gort GAA Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located in Gort, County Galway, Ireland. Founded at the turn of the 20th century, the club is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. The club competes in Galway GAA competitions, and has won the Galway Senior Hurling Club Championship and Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship on several occasions.
