Greensboro Ballet
Greensboro Ballet is a professional ballet company in North Carolina. It is the only ballet company in the Piedmont Triad. It is one of the only non-profit ballet companies in North Carolina. Greensboro Ballet has presented works by George Balanchine. The company also has performed a number of works made especially for the Greensboro Ballet by Rick McCullough, Jill Eathorne Bahr, Leslie Jane Pessemier, and alumni Emery LeCrone. Maryhelen Mayfield, who served as artistic and executive director of Greensboro Ballet from 1980 to 2019, choreographed over twenty-five works for the company. Maryhelen Mayfield
Maryhelen Mayfield (born January 28, 1946) is an American ballet dancer, choreographer, and artistic director. She was a dancer with Kansas City Ballet before moving to North Carolina to serve as both artistic and executive director of Greensboro Ballet. She served as the director of the ballet from 1980 until 2019, choreographing and staging over twenty-five original works. Biography Mayfield grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. She began training in ballet when she was seven years old. She attended the Conservatory of Music and Dance at the University of Missouri–Kansas City before transferring to the National Ballet School of Washington. She left school to pursue a dance career in New York City after the National Ballet School fell under financial hardship. ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' is a two-act ballet choreographed by George Balanchine to Felix Mendelssohn's music to Shakespeare's play of the same name. Megan LeCrone
Megan LeCrone is an American ballet dancer and soloist with the New York City Ballet. Early life and training LeCrone was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Jonathan and Sandra LeCrone and raised in Greensboro. She has two sisters, Emery LeCrone, a ballet dancer and choreographer, and Alexandra, an English teacher. LeCrone began her dance training when she was four years old at the School of Greensboro Ballet under the direction of Maryhelen Mayfield, John Dennis, and Elissa Fuchs. When she was fourteen years old she began training with Melissa Hayden and Duncan Noble at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. Kara Medoff Barnett (born Kara Silber Medoff on September 26, 1978) is an American business executive, theatre producer, and arts administrator. She is the former managing director of Lincoln Center International and currently serves as the executive director of American Ballet Theatre. Classical ballet is any of the traditional, formal styles of ballet that exclusively employ classical ballet technique.
