"Green light" is a song recorded by Cliff Richard and released as a single in February 1979. It was the third single and title track taken from his 1978 studio album '' Green Light''. The song is written by Alan Tarney who went on to write some of Richard's biggest hits, such as the follow-up single " We Don't Talk Anymore", " Dreamin'" (1980), "Wired for Sound" (1981) and " Some People" (1987). Release and reception Released as a single over four months after the released of the album, the single peaked at number 57 on the UK Singles Chart in a three-week run. Nevertheless, it broke his singles-chart drought after his previous three singles in 1978 had all missed the charts. In the US, the track received FM radio airplay on AOR formats, but did not chart. Sir Cliff Richard (born Harry Rodger Webb; 14 October 1940) is an Indian-born British musican, singer, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist who holds both British and Barbadian citizenship. Album-oriented rock (AOR, originally called album-oriented radio) is an FM radio format created in the United States in the 1970s that focuses on the full repertoire of rock albums and is currently associated with classic rock. Album-oriented radio was originally established by U.S. radio stations dedicated to playing album tracks by rock artists from the hard rock to progressive rock genres. Yvonne Marianne Elliman (born December 29, 1951) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress who performed for four years in the first cast of the stage musical ''Jesus Christ Superstar''. ''Dressed for the Occasion'' is an album by English singer Cliff Richard, recorded live with the accompaniment of the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in November 1982. London Philharmonic Orchestra
The London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) is one of five permanent symphony orchestras based in London. It was founded by the conductors Sir Thomas Beecham and Malcolm Sargent in 1932 as a rival to the existing London Symphony and BBC Symphony Orchestras. The founders' ambition was to build an orchestra the equal of any European or American rival. Between 1932 and the Second World War the LPO was widely judged to have succeeded in this regard. ''The Hit List'', released with the subtitle ''The Best of 35 Years'', is a compilation album by English singer Cliff Richard. Released in October 1994, the album reached number 3 in the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum in the UK. The album celebrates Richard's 35th anniversary in the music industry and compiled all of Richard's top 5 UK hit singles, which coincidentally totalled 35 at the time. Two bonus tracks were also chosen by Richard for the album – "Miss You Nights", at the request of fans for a re-release, and " Green Light" a favourite of Richard's. Partially in support of the album, the double A-side single "All I Have to Do Is Dream" / "Miss You Nights" was released in late November. ''British Hit Singles & Albums'' (originally known as ''The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles'' and ''The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums'') was a music reference book originally published in the United Kingdom by the publishing arm of the Guinness breweries, Guinness Superlatives. Later editions were published by HiT Entertainment (who had bought the Guinness World Records brand). It listed all the singles and albums featured in the Top 75 pop charts in the UK. In 2004 the book became an amalgamation of two earlier Guinness publications, originally known as ''British Hit Singles'' and ''British Hit Albums''. ''Green Light'' is a studio album by Cliff Richard, released in September 1978. It was his 21st studio album. Background Cliff Richard had seen a dip in popularity in the early 1970s until his 1976 album ''I'm Nearly Famous'' gave him major success. This comeback kept Richard regularly in the charts until the mid-1980s. Of the albums released during this period, only the 1978 '' Small Corners'' gospel album and ''Green Light'' failed to make the top 10. The latter, with full commercial expectations proved to be a particular disappointment, only reaching No.25 in the album charts and failing to provide any high charting singles. The lead single, "Please Remember Me" failed to chart at all, as did the follow-up, "Can't Take the Hurt Anymore".
