The Greek Basketball Super Cup or Greek Basket League Super Cup is the top-tier level professional basketball national super cup competition in Greece. The first edition of the tournament, was organized by the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.), in 1986. It was contested by the Greek Basket League champions and the Greek Basketball Cup winners. However, the Greek Basketball Super Cup was revived in 2020, by the Hellenic Basketball Clubs Association (HEBA), under a final four tournament format. History and competition format The Greek Basketball Super Cup was first held in 1986. It featured Aris, the champions of the Greek Basket League's 1985–86 season, and Panathinaikos, the winners of the 1985–86 Greek Basketball Cup. It was contested under a two-legged format, and the winner was decided by aggregate score. 1986 Greek Basketball Super Cup
The 1986 Greek Basketball Super Cup was the 1st edition of the professional basketball national domestic super cup competition of Greece, the Greek Basketball Super Cup. The first Greek Basketball Super Cup was held prior to the start of the 1986–87 season, and it was organised under the auspices of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). It was contested between the 1985–86 Greek Basket League season champions, Aris Thessaloniki, and the 1985–86 Greek Basketball Cup winners, Panathinaikos Athens. In subsequent seasons, Aris went on to win both the Greek League championship and the Greek Cup (the domestic double title), for the next four consecutive seasons (1986–87, 1987–88, 1988–89, and 1989–90). So there was no reason to hold the Greek Super Cup over those next four seasons. The Peace and Friendship Stadium ( el, Στάδιο Ειρήνης και Φιλίας, Stadio Eirinis kai Philias), commonly known by its acronym SEF, is a multi-purpose indoor arena that is located in Piraeus, on the coastal zone of Attica, Greece. Alexandreio Melathron Nick Galis Hall (Greek: Αλεξάνδρειο Μέλαθρον, Σάλα Νίκος Γκάλης) is an indoor sports arena that is located in Thessaloniki, Greece. The 2022 Greek Basketball Super Cup is the 3rd edition of the revived Greek professional domestic basketball super cup competition, under the auspices of the Hellenic Basketball Clubs Association (HEBA), and the 4th overall. The Greek Basketball Super Cup had been played only three times before, in 1986 under the auspices of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.), in 2020, and in 2021. All games were hosted in Kallithea Palais des Sports in Rhodes, Greece. Olympiacos won the 2022 Greek Super Cup.
