Greatest Hits (ZZ Top Album)
''Greatest Hits'' is a greatest hits album by the American rock band ZZ Top, released in 1992. Overview Most of the songs come from albums released during 1979–1990, from '' Degüello'' through '' Recycler''. Exceptions include remixes of "Tush" and "La Grange", and the non-album tracks "Viva Las Vegas" and "Gun Love". "Viva Las Vegas" was previously released as a single. The vinyl version of the album omitted four tracks included on the CD version ("Cheap Sunglasses", "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide", "Pearl Necklace", and "Planet of Women") and some tracks on the vinyl version are also edited from the original running length. A companion video album titled ''Greatest Hits: The Video Collection'' was also released. ZZ Top
ZZ Top is an American rock band formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas. For 51 years, they comprised vocalist-guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard and vocalist-bassist Dusty Hill, until Hill's death in 2021. ZZ Top developed a signature sound based on Gibbons' blues guitar style and Hill and Beard's rhythm section. They are popular for their live performances, sly and humorous lyrics, and the matching appearances of Gibbons and Hill, who wore sunglasses, hats and long beards. ZZ Top formed after the demise of Moving Sidewalks, Gibbons' previous band, in 1969. Within a year, they signed with London Records and released ''ZZ Top's First Album'' (1971). Subsequent releases, such as ''Tres Hombres'' (1973) and ''Fandango!'' (1975), and the singles " La Grange" and " Tush", gained extensive radio airplay. Dusty Hill
Joe Michael "Dusty" Hill (May 19, 1949 – July 28, 2021) was an American musician who was the bassist of the rock band ZZ Top for more than 50 years. He also sang lead and backing vocals and played keyboards. Hill was born in Dallas, Texas, and as a child, he began performing music with his brother, Rocky Hill (musician), Rocky Hill. In 1968, he and drummer Frank Beard (musician), Frank Beard joined guitarist Billy Gibbons in ZZ Top, and went on to release albums, including the bestselling ''Eliminator (album), Eliminator'' (1983). Hill favored simple compositions and a "big", Distortion (music), distorted sound. Critics described his basslines as a critical part of ZZ Top's sound, complementing Gibbons' guitar showmanship. Hill was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of ZZ Top in 2004. He died in 2021 after a period of declining health. El Loco
''El Loco'' is the seventh studio album by the American rock band ZZ Top, released in 1981. The title means "The Madman" in Spanish. The band's guitarist/singer Billy Gibbons has said that the recording of this album was the first time the three members of the band were isolated from one another in the studio, rather than recording simultaneously in the same room. It also foreshadowed ZZ Top's synthesizer-driven direction later in the decade, with early experimentations in synthesizer backing on certain tracks. ''Fandango!'' is the fourth album by the American rock band ZZ Top, released in 1975. The album's first side consists of selections from live shows, with the second side being new studio recordings. A remastered and expanded edition of this album was released on February 28, 2006. Album title Fandango, from which the album gets its name, is a type of dance similar to flamenco. ''The Six Pack'' is a box set released in 1987 by the American rock band ZZ Top. It comprises their first five albums, plus their seventh album, ''El Loco'' (1981). All the albums except ''El Loco'' and the live side of ''Fandango!'' were remixed with new drums and guitar effects for a more "contemporary" sound, similar to ZZ Top's eighth album, '' Eliminator'' (1983). Until 2006, these remixes were the only versions of the albums available on CD. "Tush" is a song by American blues rock band ZZ Top and was the only single from their fourth album ''Fandango!''. The song was named the 67th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. Composition The song is a twelve-bar blues in the key of G in standard tuning. Bassist Dusty Hill has said the song was written at a sound check in about ten minutes. The recording was produced by Bill Ham and recorded and mixed by Terry Manning. The title is a double entendre, referring both to slang for buttocks (with the connotation of "a piece of ass"), and slang for "luxurious" or "lavish", according to a 1985 interview with Hill in ''Spin'' magazine. ''Afterburner'' is the ninth studio album by the American rock band ZZ Top, released in 1985. ''Afterburner'' was a financial success, going several times platinum and launching several hit singles, the most successful of which was "Sleeping Bag" which peaked at No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and at No. 8 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. In the UK, it was the band's second album to be certified by the British Phonographic Industry, attaining Gold (100,000 units) in 1985. In 1990, it was certified Platinum (300,000 units). Rough Boy
"Rough Boy" was the third single by American rock band ZZ Top from their 1985 album ''Afterburner''. The song reached No. 5 on the Album Rock Tracks chart and No. 22 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, as well as No. 23 in the UK Singles Chart. Unlike the other songs on the album, this song has a much slower tempo and is more of a power ballad. It also shares a similar tune to their song " Leila" from their album ''El Loco''. Pre-production recording engineer Linden Hudson was very involved in the early stages of this song's production.
