ZZ Top
ZZ Top is an American rock band formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas. For 51 years, they comprised vocalist-guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard and vocalist-bassist Dusty Hill, until Hill's death in 2021. ZZ Top developed a signature sound based on Gibbons' blues guitar style and Hill and Beard's rhythm section. They are popular for their live performances, sly and humorous lyrics, and the matching appearances of Gibbons and Hill, who wore sunglasses, hats and long beards. ZZ Top formed after the demise of Moving Sidewalks, Gibbons' previous band, in 1969. Within a year, they signed with London Records and released ''ZZ Top's First Album'' (1971). Subsequent releases, such as ''Tres Hombres'' (1973) and ''Fandango!'' (1975), and the singles " La Grange" and " Tush", gained extensive radio airplay. By the mid-1970s, ZZ Top had become renowned in North America for its live act, including the Worldwide Texas Tour (1976— 1977), which was a critical and commercial success. ...

He also sang lead and backing vocals and played keyboards. Hill was born in Dallas, Texas, and as a child, he began performing music with his brother, Rocky Hill (musician), Rocky Hill. In 1968, he and drummer Frank Beard (musician), Frank Beard joined guitarist Billy Gibbons in ZZ Top, and went on to release albums, including the bestselling ''Eliminator (album), Eliminator'' (1983). Hill favored simple compositions and a "big", Distortion (music), distorted sound. Critics described his basslines as a critical part of ZZ Top's sound, complementing Gibbons' guitar showmanship. Hill was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of ZZ Top in 2004. He died in 2021 after a period of declining health. He was replaced by the band's longtime guitar tech Elwood Francis, in line with his wishes. Early life Hill was born in ...

El Loco
''El Loco'' is the seventh studio album by the American rock band ZZ Top, released in 1981. The title means "The Madman" in Spanish. The band's guitarist/singer Billy Gibbons has said that the recording of this album was the first time the three members of the band were isolated from one another in the studio, rather than recording simultaneously in the same room. It also foreshadowed ZZ Top's synthesizer-driven direction later in the decade, with early experimentations in synthesizer backing on certain tracks. Background ''El Loco'' was produced by Bill Ham and recorded and originally mixed by Terry Manning. The biographer David Blayney explains in his book ''Sharp Dressed Men'' that the recording engineer Linden Hudson was involved as a pre-producer on this album.Blayney, David (1994). ''Sharp Dressed Men''. New York: Hyperion. pp. 196–203. . Hudson did not receive credit for engineering the tracks on "Groovy Little Hippie Pad" which were used on the final album mix. In 1987 ...

My Head's In Mississippi
"My Head's In Mississippi" is a song by ZZ Top from their album '' Recycler''. The song was produced by band manager Bill Ham, and recorded and mixed by Terry Manning. In December 1990, the song reached number one on the ''Billboard'' Album Rock Tracks chart and number 166 in Australia. Composition In 2015, Gibbons said of the song "My buddy Walter Baldwin spoke in the most poetic way. Every sentence was a visual awakening. His dad was the editor of the ''Houston Post''. We grew up in a neighborhood where the last thing you would say is, 'These teenagers know what blues is.' But our appreciation dragged us in. Years later, we were sitting in a tavern in Memphis called Sleep Out Louie's — you could see the Mississippi River. Walter said, 'We didn't grow up pickin' cotton. We weren't field hands in Mississippi. But my head's there.' Our platform, in ZZ Top, was we'd be the Salvador Dalí of the Delta. It was a surrealist take. This song was not a big radio hit. But we still pl ...

Remix
A remix (or reorchestration) is a piece of media which has been altered or contorted from its original state by adding, removing, or changing pieces of the item. A song, piece of artwork, book, video, poem, or photograph can all be remixes. The only characteristic of a remix is that it appropriates and changes other materials to create something new. Most commonly, remixes are a subset of audio mixing in music and song recordings. Songs may be remixed for a large variety of reasons: * to adapt or revise a song for radio or nightclub play * to create a stereo or surround sound version of a song where none was previously available * to improve the fidelity of an older song for which the original master has been lost or degraded * to alter a song to suit a specific music genre or radio format * to use some of the original song's materials in a new context, allowing the original song to reach a different audience * to alter a song for artistic purposes * to provide additional version ...

Fandango!
''Fandango!'' is the fourth album by the American rock band ZZ Top, released in 1975. The album's first side consists of selections from live shows, with the second side being new studio recordings. A remastered and expanded edition of this album was released on February 28, 2006. Album title Fandango, from which the album gets its name, is a type of dance similar to flamenco. Background Frontman Billy Gibbons said of the album: The live capture wound up being in the can first. We had enough live material to make up one side of the disc, so we decided to go with the unusual move of making the album half live, half studio. It turned out to be a winning combination for us. The album's opening song "Thunderbird", despite having ZZ Top writing credit, was originally written and performed by The Nightcaps, a band formed in the 1950s when the members were teenagers.Dabou/sb v. Gibbons, 42 F.3d 285, 287 (5th Cir. 1995). The Nightcaps performed the song and distributed it on their alb ...

The Six Pack (ZZ Top Album)
''The Six Pack'' is a box set released in 1987 by the American rock band ZZ Top. It comprises their first five albums, plus their seventh album, ''El Loco'' (1981). All the albums except ''El Loco'' and the live side of ''Fandango!'' were remixed with new drums and guitar effects for a more "contemporary" sound, similar to ZZ Top's eighth album, '' Eliminator'' (1983). Until 2006, these remixes were the only versions of the albums available on CD. Reception Reviewing ''The Six Pack'' for AllMusic, Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote: "If ''Six Pack'' just delivered the original albums, it'd be a good investment, but the studio tinkering makes this a disaster." Later reissues The ''Six Pack'' remixes were also used on the individual CD releases of the albums and all following compilations of the band (except the CD release of 1977's The Best of ZZ Top) for the next few years. Original mixes were first remastered for the box set '' Chrome, Smoke & BBQ'', and its companion compilation re ...

Tush (ZZ Top Song)
"Tush" is a song by American blues rock band ZZ Top and was the only single from their fourth album ''Fandango!''. The song was named the 67th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. Composition The song is a twelve-bar blues in the key of G in standard tuning. Bassist Dusty Hill has said the song was written at a sound check in about ten minutes. The recording was produced by Bill Ham and recorded and mixed by Terry Manning. The title is a double entendre, referring both to slang for buttocks (with the connotation of "a piece of ass"), and slang for "luxurious" or "lavish", according to a 1985 interview with Hill in ''Spin'' magazine. Gibbons said "We were in Florence, Alabama, playing in a rodeo arena with a dirt floor. We decided to play a bit in the afternoon. I hit that opening lick, and Dave Blayney, our lighting director, gave us the hand wirls a finger in the air "Keep it going." I leaned over to Dusty and said, "Call it 'Tush.'" The Texas singer Roy Head had a flip ...

Afterburner (ZZ Top Album)
''Afterburner'' is the ninth studio album by the American rock band ZZ Top, released in 1985. ''Afterburner'' was a financial success, going several times platinum and launching several hit singles, the most successful of which was "Sleeping Bag" which peaked at No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and at No. 8 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. In the UK, it was the band's second album to be certified by the British Phonographic Industry, attaining Gold (100,000 units) in 1985. In 1990, it was certified Platinum (300,000 units). Recording Like the previous record '' Eliminator'', the credits don't necessarily reflect the actual recordings, although the entire band was involved with the album and Frank Beard has repeatedly stated that he likes the album. According to engineer Joe Hardy, a lot of the album was done on the Fairlight, including all the drums and most of the bass. The album is also notable for several songs being built on sequenced keyboard beds. It was the first ZZ Top ...

The song reached No. 5 on the Album Rock Tracks chart and No. 22 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, as well as No. 23 in the UK Singles Chart. Unlike the other songs on the album, this song has a much slower tempo and is more of a power ballad. It also shares a similar tune to their song " Leila" from their album ''El Loco''. Background Dusty Hill said in 2007, "'Rough Boy' is a pretty li'l song. We're doin' it this tour. We pulled it back out. I like that song so much, I had it played at my wedding." Reception ''Cash Box'' called it a "rapturous teen ballad" in which "the band turns its leather-tough into pure silk." Music video The music video (directed by Steve Barron) features the band's "Eliminator" car/space shuttle hybrid (from the ''Afterburner'' album cover) visiting a space car wash, interspersed with images of the band members' hands and faces, as well as a woman's legs, ...
