Greatest Hits (1979 Luv' Album)
''Greatest Hits'' is a compilation album by Dutch girl group Luv' by Philips/ Phonogram Records. It was rush-released in 1979 a few weeks after the formation had left Philips to sign a record deal with the labels CNR/ Carrere Records. It features hit singles scored in the charts between 1977 and 1979: "My Man", " U.O.Me", " You're the Greatest Lover", " Trojan Horse", " Casanova" and " Eeny Meeny Miny Moe". These songs were originally released in their first and second studio albums, ''With Luv''' (1978) and '' Lots of Luv''' (1979). The Philips/Phonogram years were the group's most successful ones in terms of chart performance. Luv'
Luv' were a Dutch girl group that scored a string of hit records in Continental Europe (Benelux, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, Denmark, Norway and Finland) as well as Israel, South Africa, Rhodesia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Argentina and Mexico in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The original members were Patty Brard, José Hoebee and Marga Scheide. In 1979, Luv' was 'Holland's best export act' and thus received the 'Buma Export Award, Conamus Export Prize'. The band sold more than seven million records worldwide (singles and albums). Among their greatest hits were: "U.O.Me (Theme from Waldolala), U.O.Me (Welcome to Waldolala)", "You're the Greatest Lover", "Trojan Horse (Luv' song), Trojan Horse", "Casanova (Luv' song), Casanova" and "Ooh, Yes I Do". ''With Luv is the first album by the Dutch girl group Luv', released in August 1978 by Phonogram/ Philips Records. Marga Scheide
Margareth "Marga" Scheide (born 15 February 1954 in Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a Dutch singer and former model. She was a member of the girl group Luv'. Alongside Patty Brard and José Hoebee, she scored a string of international hit songs such as "You're the Greatest Lover", "Trojan Horse", "Casanova" and " Ooh, Yes I Do". She was the only Luv' singer to be involved in all the incarnations of the group. The formation went through line-up changes and the original singers reunited several times. In 2016, Marga, José and Ria Thielsch (who already replaced Patty in 1980) decided to relaunch Luv'. In July 2017, the ladies celebrated their 40th anniversary. On January 4, 2019, the group announced another line-up change in De Telegraaf: media personality Chimène van Oosterhout replaced Ria Thielsch. A patty or burger (in British English) is a flattened, usually round, serving of ground meat and/or legumes, grains, vegetables, or meat alternatives. José Hoebee
Josina van de Wijdeven (born 29 March 1954), known as José Hoebee, is a Dutch pop singer. She was a member of Luv', a famous Dutch girl group in the late 1970s and early 1980s that scored hits in more than 15 countries. In late 1981, she went solo and was successful in her homeland and in the Flanders region of Belgium between 1982 and 1985. She formed a duo known as Bonnie & José with Bonnie St. Claire to record Dutch cover versions of ABBA's songs. Luv' went through line-up changes and reunited several times. On 7 February 2020 the group's management announced that Luv' would stop all their activities due to José's ill health. Pieter Cornelis "Piet" Souer (born 29 March 1948, Eindhoven) is a Dutch record producer, songwriter and arranger. His collaboration with acts (such as Luv', Mouth & MacNeal, Liesbeth List, Ramses Shaffy, American Gypsy, and Champagne) made him gain twenty two gold and platinum records', one Conamus Export Prize and one 'Outstanding Song Award', thanks to his composition "Too Young To Know", performed by Anita Meyer at World Popular Song Festival in Japan in 1981. Debut Piet Souer (a guitar and keyboard player) started his career as a member of The Valiants, a rock band from Eindhoven. His breakthrough happened when he played guitar on "De troubadour", a track performed by Lenny Kuhr, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1969. "Who Do You Wanna Be" is the eighth single by the Dutch girl group Luv', released in the autumn of 1979 by Philips/Phonogram Records. This song appears on the formation's debut album With Luv' and their first compilation "Greatest Hits". It was the trio's closing release under their contract with Philips/Phonogram just before they joined CNR/Carrere Records. Song history When record producer Hans van Hemert and Luv' planned to leave Phonogram Records in 1979, the label decided as a counterattack to release Who Do You Wanna Be only in the Netherlands. This song was taken from the group's first opus With Luv' and later included on a Greatest Hits album. Luv' group didn't promote the song and instead focused on their Carrere releases (Ooh, Yes I Do and True Luv'). That's why it failed to enter the record charts.
