Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras
The Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras (GCTYO) is based in Fairfield, Connecticut, US, and serves more than 350 students from over 30 surrounding towns, including Fairfield, Bridgeport, Trumbull, Monroe, Easton, Westport, Orange, Southbury, and numerous others. At the start of their new season in 2019, the organization changed its name to GCTYO (Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras) from the original GBYO to broaden its reach beyond the Greater Bridgeport area and to reflect its current membership from all over Connecticut. The Orchestras perform at least three times a year in Bridgeport, Connecticut, at the Klein Memorial Auditorium. It was led for over 25 years by Robert Genualdi. The current Music Director and Principal Orchestra Conductor is Christopher Hisey, an alumnus of the program. He has been involved with the organization for over 30 years. Klein Memorial Auditorium
The Klein Memorial Auditorium is a 1400-seat proscenium theater located at 910 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, CT. The venue was built with funds willed to the city by Bridgeport native Jacob Klein (1862 - 1932), a lawyer and active supporter of Bridgeport community organizations. The auditorium, designed by local architect Leonard Asheim, was built in the Art Deco style and features bronze doors, a marble lobby, inlaid wood and geometric motifs. After opening its doors in 1940, the Klein hosted such acts as Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Fiedler, Eleanor Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., Paul Robeson, Milton Berle, Victor Borge and Bill Cosby. James Galway
Sir James Galway (born 8 December 1939) is an Irish virtuoso flute player from Belfast, nicknamed "The Man with the Golden Flute". He established an international career as a solo flute player. Pequot Library
The Pequot Library is an association and special collections library in Southport, Connecticut. It was founded in 1887, and opened in 1894. The library is known for its robust special collections, including William Shakespeare's ''First Folio'', John James Audubon's '' Birds of America'', and William Morris' work with the Kelmscott Press, as well as the first cookbook ever printed, '' De honesta voluptae et valetudine''. The Library also has a vast circulating collection of over 116,000 books, archives, and other texts.
