Great Britain competed in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. Originally scheduled to take place between 21 August and 6 September 2020, the Games were postponed to 24 August to 5 September 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. British athletes have competed at all sixteen consecutive Summer Paralympics since 1960. Sarah Storey, competing in her eighth Paralympics, won Great Britain's first gold medal of the Games, on the first day of competition, in the women's individual pursuit C5 cycling. It was Storey's fifteenth Paralympic gold medal, leaving her one behind Mike Kenny's British record of sixteen. On 31 August, Storey won her second gold of the Games in the Women's C-5 road time trial, winning her sixteenth Paralympic gold medal, and becoming Great Britain's most successful ever Paralympian, matching Mike Kenny's record of 16 gold medals, but exceeding his record in silver and bronze medals. Equestrian at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan was held at the Tokyo Equestrian Park. There were eleven gender free events taking place: ten individual events and one mixed team event. Cycling At The 2020 Summer Paralympics – Women's Individual Pursuit B
The women's individual pursuit class B track cycling event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics took place on 28 August 2021 at the Izu Velodrome, Japan. This class is for the cyclist who is blind or has visual impairments, thus they ride tandem bicycles with a sighted cyclist (also known as the pilot). There will be 9 pairs (18 competitors athlete+pilots) from 7 different nations competing. Competition format The competition starts with a qualifying round where a time trial basis will be between the 9 pairs; all 9 pairs will be divided into 5 heats, all heats having 2 pairs except heat 1 which will have 1 pair. The 2 fastest pairs in the qualifying would qualify to the gold medal final while the 3rd and 4th fastest will qualify to the bronze medal final where they will race head-to-head. Corrine Claire Hall, (born 20 February 1991) is an English cyclist from Mitcham, London. Matt Rotherham
Matthew Rotherham (born 1994) is a British male track cyclist. Following a career as an elite abled bodied cyclist, he transferred to Paralympic track cycling as a sighted pilot in the visually impaired (B) classification. In 2021, he piloted Neil Fachie to Paralympic gold in the men's track time trial B classification. The pair are also Commonwealth Games champions in 2018, and five-time World champions in the discipline. Cycling career Rotherham is a five times British champion after winning the time trial Championship at the 2019 British National Track Championships and the 2022 British National Track Championships and three British National Tandem Sprint Championships gold medals. The women's time trial class C4-5 track cycling event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics took place on 27 August 2021 at the Izu Velodrome, Japan. This combined class of (C4-5) under classification C is for cyclists who have impairments that affect their legs, arms, and/or trunk but are still capable to use a standard bicycle. 11 cyclists from 10 nations competed in this event.
