Granite Curling Club (Winnipeg)
The Granite Curling Club (also known as The Granite), located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is the oldest Lists of curling clubs in Canada, curling club in western Canada. Affectionately known to curling fans as the "Mother Club", it has produced many Canadian and world champions. It is often considered to be the "The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, St. Andrews" of curling because of its contribution to the sport in curling's most dominant region. History The original Granite Curling Club dates back to 1880. Its current downtown location and Tudor architecture, Tudor-framed clubhouse was built in 1913, and the building has since been designated as a Winnipeg Heritage Building. One of the early presidents was John B. Mather, who assumed that position in 1887. Curl Manitoba
Curl Manitoba (formerly the Manitoba Curling Association) is the organization responsible for curling in the province of Manitoba. Its stated mission is "to promote, develop and grow the sport of curling in Manitoba, Canada and the world by providing leadership, services and programs for the curling community from grassroots to elite.". The Manitoba Curling Association was created in 2000 when the men's only Manitoba Curling Association (MCA) amalgamated with the women's only Manitoba Ladies Curling Association (MLCA). The 1992 Labatt Brier was held from March 8 to 15 at the Agridome in Regina, Saskatchewan. Vic Peters of Manitoba defeated Russ Howard of Ontario in the final in an extra end to win his first and only Brier of his career. Leslie Wilson-Westcott
Leslie Wilson-Westcott, also known as Leslie Wilson (born September 1, 1979 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian curler from Pinawa, Manitoba. Career Wilson-Westcott won her first provincial women's championship in 2010 playing second on Team Jill Thurston. The team represented Manitoba at the 2010 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, where they finished the round robin with a 7-4 record, and lost in the tiebreaker match. Wilson-Westcott joined the Cathy Overton-Clapham rink at second for the next season. With her new team Wilson-Westcott won the 2011 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts, her second provincial title in a row. At the 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Overton-Clapham led the team to a 4-7 record. Wilson-Westcott took the next season off, just playing as the team's alternate. Jason Gunnlaugson
Jason Gunnlaugson is a Canadian curler currently living in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gunnlaugson is known for having been hired by the Russian Curling Federation (RCF) to represent the country at the 2014 Winter Olympics. The deal which was announced in April 2010 fell through in November that year, when the Gunnlaugson team was fired by the RCF. Career Prior to his deal to play for Russia, Gunnlaugson had skipped his team out of Beausejour, Manitoba. In 2009, Gunnlaugson took over the reins of Daley Peters's team when Peters left the team to curl with his father Vic Peters. Gunnlaugson had been a member of the Peters team solely for the 2008-09 season, prior to that he had played third on the Reid Carruthers team. Kate Cameron (curler)
Katherine Cameron (born October 22, 1991) is a Canadian curler from New Bothwell, Manitoba. She currently skips her own team out of Winnipeg. Career In 2008 Cameron skipped a team to win the U16 Provincial Championship. The team included Nicole Sigvaldason, Sheyna Andries and Emily Helston. In 2010 Cameron lost the junior provincial final to Breanne Meakin. Cameron 's team included Nicole Sigvaldason, Sheyna Andries and Kelsey Hinds. In 2012 again Cameron lost the junior provincial final to Shannon Birchard. Cameron threw last stones for Team Vandepoele, the team included skip, Alyssa Vandepoele, Abby Ackland and Sheyna Andries. Gordon Hudson (curler)
Gordon Milford Hudson (January 5, 1894 – July 10, 1959) was a Canadian curler. He was a two-time Brier champion."Outstanding Curler, Gordon Hudson Dies" Winnipeg Free Press, Saturday, July 11, 1959, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, pg 49 Hudson was the first skip to win two Briers, which he won back to back in 1928 and 1929. Hudson grew up in Kenora, Ontario, and participated in many Manitoba Curling Association Bonspiels. In 1916, his family moved to Winnipeg. Hudson fought in World War I, and then joined the now defunct Strathcona Curling Club. In 1928, he won his first Brier. His Manitoba team, which also included Sam Penwarden, Ron Singbush and Bill Grant finished the round robin with a 7-2 record, tied with Alberta and Toronto. Terrance A. "Terry" Braunstein (born April 18, 1939) is a Canadian retired curler. Don Duguid
Donald Gordon Duguid (born January 25, 1935) is a Canadian champion curler. A three-time winner of the Canadian Brier and two-time World Curling champion, Duguid won the Brier in 1965, 1970 and 1971, and the Worlds in 1970 and 1971. He was only the second skip ever to win back to back Briers in 1971. He was inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 1974, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1991, and the WCF Hall of Fame in 2013. In 2014, he was made a member of the Order of Manitoba.
