Grange Fair
The Grange Fair is an annual fair and camping event held in Centre Hall in Centre County, Pennsylvania each year since 1874. The fair is typically held in the last full week of August. On the last day of 140th Grange Fair, it was announced that the 2015 Grange Fair will be moving a week earlier and adding 1 day, with the fair going from 7 days to 9 days. No fairs were held in 1917–18, 1942–45 nor 2020. The 2005 Emmy awarding winning documentary film ''The Grange Fair: An American Tradition'' directed by Joe Myers chronicles the 131st Grange Fair. Attractions The Centre County Grange Fair is most notable for allowing fairgoers to camp on the grounds, but the fair also has carnival rides, many types of food stands, bingo, and live concerts. Centre Hall
Centre Hall is a borough in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located in Penns Valley and is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,265 at the 2010 census, which is a 17.2% increase from the 2000 censu Centre Hall was so named on account of its location near the geographical center of Penns Valley. Canning is a method of food preservation in which food is processed and sealed in an airtight container (jars like Mason jars, and steel and tin cans). Quilt
A quilt is a multi-layered textile, traditionally composed of two or more layers of fabric or fiber. Commonly three layers are used with a filler material. Work Release
In prison systems, work release programs allow a prisoner who is sufficiently trusted or can be sufficiently monitored to go outside the prison and work at a place of employment, returning to prison when their shift is complete. Some work release programs allow greater freedom for the prisoner, allowing prisoners who follow a Monday–Friday workweek to attend work and live at their homes on those days, and serve their sentences two days at a time on weekends. Depending on the terms of the program, the prisoner may serve their sentence in a halfway house or home confinement while not working. Other work release programs can be offered to prisoners who are nearing the end of their terms and looking for a reintegration into civilian life, with a possible offer of full-time employment once the prisoner is released. State Correctional Institution – Benner Township
State Correctional Institution – Benner Township, commonly referred to as SCI Benner, is a Medium-Security correctional facility for males located in Benner Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania. It is one of twenty six state-level correctional institutions of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections System. SCI Benner sits adjacent to SCI Rockview. History The construction of SCI Benner was approved with the passage of the 2008 Capital Budget. Groundbreaking was held in August 2009, and in March 2011, the first footer was in place. The contractor was Hensel Phelps. Costing $200 million to construct, the prison consists of 46 acres inside the perimeter's fence and 589,492 square footage under roof.
