Grandfalls-Royalty Independent School District is a public school district based in Grandfalls, Texas (USA). In addition to Grandfalls, the district also serves the unincorporated community of Royalty. Grandfalls-Royalty ISD has one school that serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelve. Academic achievement In 2013 Grandfalls-Royalty ISD was rated "Met Standard" and received distinctions in "Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA", "Academic Achievement in Mathematics", and a "Top 25 Percent Student Progress" distinction. Grandfalls, Texas
Grandfalls is a town in Ward County, Texas, United States. It was named for its location near the "grand falls" of the Pecos River, located roughly to the west. Early settlers were attracted to the Grandfalls area in the late 1880s by the steady supply of water flowing in the Pecos River. Its population was 360 at the 2010 census. Geography Grandfalls is located at (31.340779, –102.854785). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.4 km2), all of it land. In 1933 Royalty had an estimated population of twenty, and a hotel, drugstore, café, pool hall, barbershop, and laundry. Its population peaked at 750 in 1940. With declining oilfield activity, the population had fallen to about 190 by 1968. In 1990 the population was reported as 196. Grandfalls-Royalty High School is a public high school located in Grandfalls, Texas (USA) and classified as a 1A school by the UIL. It is part of the Grandfalls-Royalty Independent School District located in southeast Ward County. In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. In 2014, voters approved a $12,200,000 bond issue for constructing a new K-12 school to replace existing facilities. Six-man Football
Six-man football is a variant of gridiron football played with six players per team, instead of the standard 11 or 12. It is generally played by high schools in rural areas of the United States and Canada. History Six-man football was developed in 1934 by Stephen Epler in Chester, Nebraska, as an alternative means for small high schools to field a football team during the Great Depression. The first game was played on Thursday, September 27, 1934, at the Hebron, Nebraska Athletic Gridiron, under the lights, with a crowd of almost 1000 watching. This game was played so that coaches all over Kansas and Nebraska could see if they wanted to try this new game of six-man. The two teams playing in the game were the combined team from Hardy-Chester ("Hard-Chests") and a combined team from Belvidere-Alexandria ("Belvalex").
