''Grandeza'' (Portuguese and Capeverdean Creole for "Greatness")' is an album recorded by Val Xalino. The album was released in 2004 and is named after a sixth single made by Eddy Moreno released in 1981. The album features nine tracks including "Grandeza" and "Corpin sebin" The album was composed by Val and Robert Xalino, Robert Xalino. It features some cover versions of the singles made by Eddy Moreno and Djô D’Eloy. Eddy Moreno was the uncle of Val Xalino. Val Xalino
Val Xalino (born August 19, 1953) is a Capeverdean singer and producer who currently resides in Gothenburg, Sweden. He is the father of the Cape Verdean singer and producer Robert Xalino. Biography Val Xalino was born in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente to his mother Maria who was a cook and his father Armando de Jon who was a great musician from the island during the 1950s and the 1960s. He made guitars along with his brothers Eduardo de Jon and Eddy Moreno. Together with his son Roberto, he later immigrated to Sweden and lived in the city of Gothenburg in the western part in 1977, Val immigrated later. His first album was ''Dilema d’imigração'' on the dilemma on immigration of the immigrants which was common in Cape Verde at the time. In 1987, he released '' Dança Dança T' Manchê'', one of the singles, ''Praia de Baía'' became a hit in Sweden and was heard on Swedish radio stations. Xalino later released '' Emoções'' in 1993. Robert Xalino
Roberto Xalino (born March 21, 1987) is a Cape Verdean singer, rapper and producer who currently resides in Gothenburg, Sweden. He is the son of the Capeverdean singer and producer Val Xalino. Biography Roberto Xalino was born in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente. Together with his brother Val, he later immigrated to Sweden and lived in the city of Gothenburg in the western part. He is best known as the son of Val Xalino who came from a Cape Verdean family of musicians named Xalino, singers of traditional music. His family once lived at 35 Rua de Moeda where famous singers in the 1950s and the 1960s visited including Eddy Moreno, Djuta Silva, Armando de Jon Xalino, Eduardo de Jon Xalino and his uncles Xante and Zuca Xalino. Morna (music)
The morna (pronunciation in both Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole: ) is a music and dance genre from Cape Verde. Lyrics are usually in Cape Verdean Creole, and instrumentation often includes cavaquinho, clarinet, accordion, violin, piano and guitar. Morna is widely considered the national music of Cape Verde, as is the fado for Portugal, the tango for Argentina, the merengue for Dominican Republic, the rumba for Cuba, and so on. The best internationally known morna singer was Cesária Évora. Coladeira
The ''coladeira'' (; Cape Verdean Creole: ''koladera,'' ) is a music genre from the Cape Verde islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It is characterized by a variable tempo, a 2-beat bar, and (in its most traditional form) a harmonic structure based in a cycle of fifths. The lyrics structure is organized in strophes that alternate with a refrain. The tone is generally joyful and themes often include social criticism. Instrumentation typically includes a guitar, a '' cavaquinho'', and percussion, among others. According to oral tradition, the genre originated in the 1930s when the composer Anton’ Tchitch’ intentionally speeded up the tempo of a '' morna.'' In the 1950s, it began to incorporate electronic influences, and beginning in the 1980s it was influenced by compas music from Haiti. Eddy Moreno
Eddy Moreno born Adolfo de Jon Xalino (1915–1983) was a famous Cape Verdean singer. He belonged to the Xalino family of singers. His greatest singles included " Arriola" and " Grandeza", both appeared in the album '' Nos Festa'' in 1981. Moreno was the first to record in the Sanjon (Saint John) music style. Biography Lobo was born in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente, he first appeared in music and theater. After his theatrical appearance, he became a singer and a musician and a pioneer in Cape Verdean music history. Moreno recorded many traditional coladeira and morna songs in the 1950s and the 1960s.
