Fātemeh Vā'ezi ( fa, فاطمه واعظی, born March 16, 1950 in Tonekabon, Iran), better known as Parisā ( fa, پریسا), is a Persian classical singer, Avaz master, and one of the foremost female vocalists from Iran. ''Taqsim'' ( ckb, تەقسیم, ar, تَقْسِيم / ALA-LC: ''taqsīm''; el, ταξίμι, translit=taksimi, tr, taksim) is a melodic musical improvisation that usually precedes the performance of a traditional Arabic, Kurdish, Greek, Middle Eastern, Azerbaijani or Turkish musical composition. ''Taqsim'' traditionally follows a certain melodic progression. Starting from the tonic of a particular Arabic maqam (or a Turkish '' makam''), the first few measures of the improvisation remain in the lower ajnas of the maqam, thereby introducing the maqam to the listener. Toumani Diabaté ( ; born 10 August 1965) is a Malian kora player. In addition to performing the traditional music of Mali, he has also been involved in cross-cultural collaborations with flamenco, blues, jazz, and other international styles. In 2006, the London-based newspaper ''The Independent'' named Diabaté one of the fifty best African artists. Biography Diabaté comes from a long family tradition of kora players, including his father Sidiki Diabaté, who recorded the first-ever kora album in 1970. Tinariwen (Tamasheq: , with vowels , pronounced ''tinariwen'' "deserts", plural of ''ténéré'' "desert") is a collective of Tuareg musicians from the Sahara Desert region of northern Mali. Considered a pioneer of desert blues, the group's guitar-driven style combines traditional Tuareg and African music with Western rock music. They have released eight albums since their formation and have toured internationally. The group was founded by Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, along with Alhassane Ag Touhami and brothers Inteyeden Ag Ablil and Liya Ag Ablil (aka "Diarra"). BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music The BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music was an award given to world music artists between 2002 and 2008, sponsored by BBC Radio 3.
