Granada Studios Tour
Granada Studios Tour was an entertainment theme park at the Granada Studios complex in Castlefield, Manchester, England which operated from 1988 to 1999. The park was in the heart of Manchester city centre adjacent to the Granada House building. The tour attracted over 5 million visitors, but visitor numbers were waning by the late 1990s and Granada Television had to prioritise other parts of its business such as the failing ONdigital (ITV Digital) service. As a result, the Granada Studios Tour closed to the public in 1999 and for good in 2001. The Coronation Street set – part of the original theme park – was temporarily re-opened to the public in April 2014 for a six-month period, and its popularity meant it stayed open until December 2015. Old Granada Studios (known simply as Granada Studios and previously known as The Manchester Studios) is a television studio complex and events venue on Quay Street in Manchester with the facility to broadcast live and recorded television programmes. The studios were formerly the headquarters of Granada Television and later ITV Granada from 1956 to 2013. After a period of closure, five of the six studio spaces were reopened under the All Studios banner in 2018. The studios are the oldest operating purpose-built television studios in the United Kingdom pre-dating BBC Television Centre by five years. ''Sherlock Holmes'' is the overall title given to the series of Sherlock Holmes adaptations produced by the British television company ITV Granada, Granada Television between 1984 and 1994. The first two series were shown under the title ''The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes'' and were followed by subsequent series with the titles of other short story collections by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Of the 60 Holmes stories written by Doyle, 43 were adapted in the series, spanning 36 one-hour episodes and five feature-length specials. ''Emmerdale'' (known as ''Emmerdale Farm'' until 1989) is a British soap opera that is broadcast on ITV1. The show is set in Emmerdale (known as Beckindale until 1994), a fictional village in the Yorkshire Dales. Created by Kevin Laffan, ''Emmerdale Farm'' was first broadcast on 16 October 1972. Interior scenes have been filmed at the Leeds Studios since its inception. Rovers Return
The Rovers Return Inn is a fictional pub in the long-running British soap opera ''Coronation Street''. The Rovers Return occupies a corner of the fictional Coronation Street and Rosamund Street set location in the show. The pub was built by the fictional brewery Newton and Ridley. In the programme, the Rovers Return Inn has been a free house since 1995, although the brewery continues to supply it. The name comes from the Ye Olde Rovers Return in Withy Grove, Manchester, a 14th-century building that became a licensed public house but ceased to be so in 1924 and was demolished in 1958. The fictional pub has had three in-universe layouts. The original layout generally consisted of the style of a public bar. An audio commentary is an additional audio track, usually digital, consisting of a lecture or comments by one or more speakers, that plays in real time with a video. Commentaries can be serious or entertaining in nature, and can add information which otherwise would not be disclosed to audience members.
