Grabit (cookware)
Grab-Its are microwave-safe cookware easily identifiable by their tab handle. They were introduced by Corning Glass Works in 1977, under the Corning Ware brand and are now sold in a slightly different form by Corelle Brands. Grab-Its are notable as being among the first cookware specifically designed for microwave use - their design was recognized by the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. Grab-Its strongly resemble porringers. Grab-Its were made available in two sizes, smaller 15 ounce and larger "Grab-A-Meal" 24 ounce versions. The 15 ounce Grab-Its were available with a plastic cover and/or a Pyrex glass lid. 24 ounce versions came with a glass lid only. In addition to microwave use, Corning Ware and Visions Grab-Its made of Pyroceram are safe on the stovetop, in the oven, and under a broiler (without cover). GrabIt has Yenc and NZB support and can have up to 50 simultaneous connections. GrabIt is one of the few newsreaders to include a search function. This search function searches all of the newsgroups on the Shemes news service. This is beneficial for the user wanting to find a certain binary or article. The downside to the search is that a user can only do a fixed number of searches without being subscribed to Shemes news service. Porringer
A porringer is a shallow bowl, between 4 and 6 inches (100 to 150mm) in diameter, and 1½" to 3" (40 to 80mm) deep; the form originated in the medieval period in Europe and was made in wood, ceramic, pewter, cast iron and silver. They had flat, horizontal handles. "The precise purpose of porringers, or écuelles, as they are known in France, is in dispute; but it is thought that they were used to hold broth or gruel." Colonial porringers tended to have one handle, whereas European ones tended to have two handles on opposite sides, on which the owner's initials were sometimes engraved, and they occasionally came with a lid. Pyrex
Pyrex (trademarked as ''PYREX'' and ''pyrex'') is a brand introduced by Corning Inc. in 1915 for a line of clear, low-thermal-expansion borosilicate glass used for laboratory glassware and kitchenware. It was later expanded to include kitchenware products made of soda-lime glass and other materials. In 1998, the kitchenware division of Corning Inc. responsible for the development of Pyrex spun off from its parent company as Corning Consumer Products Company, subsequently renamed Corelle Brands (and would later merge with Instant Brands). Pyroceram
Pyroceram is the original glass-ceramic material developed and trademarked by Corning Glass in the 1950s. Pyroceram is an opaque, white, glass material, commonly used in kitchenware, glass stove tops, wood stove doors, etc.. It has high heat tolerance and low thermal expansion. Development Its development has been traced to Corning's work in developing photosensitive glass. Corning credits S. Donald Stookey with the discovery of Pyroceram. While conducting research in 1953 on a photosensitive lithium silicate glass called Fotoform containing a dispersion of silver nanoparticles, Stookey noted that an accidentally overheated fragment of the glass resisted breakage when dropped.
