Government Of The 17th Dáil
The Government of the 17th Dáil or the 10th Government of Ireland (11 October 1961 – 21 April 1965) was the government of Ireland formed after the general election held on 4 October 1961. It was a minority government formed by Fianna Fáil, which had been in office since the 1957 election. It was the first election it had won since Seán Lemass had succeeded Éamon de Valera as leader. The Taoiseach is the head of government, or prime minister, of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The office is appointed by the president of Ireland upon the nomination of Dáil Éireann (the lower house of the Oireachtas, Ireland's national legislature) and the office-holder must retain the support of a majority in the Dáil to remain in office. Patrick Finucane (Irish Politician)
Patrick Finucane (5 December 1899 – 10 April 1984) was an Irish Clann na Talmhan politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Kerry North constituency from 1943 to 1969. Born on a family farm at Prohus, Moyvane, County Kerry, he was the eldest of nine children. In 1917 he joined the Irish Volunteers and took part in the Irish War of Independence. Following the split on the Anglo-Irish Treaty, he took the anti-treaty side. He married and had a farm at Urlee, Lisselton. He was involved in farming organisations and in 1942 was elected to Kerry County Council. He was chosen to contest the 1943 general election by the Kerry Farmers' Association. and was elected as a TD for the Kerry North constituency. Joseph Barron
Joseph Barron (died 30 July 1968) was an Irish Clann na Poblachta politician. A teacher by profession, he first stood unsuccessfully for election at the 1948 general election as a Clann na Poblachta candidate for the Dublin South-Central constituency. He was also an unsuccessful candidate at the 1951, 1954 and 1957 general elections. The National Progressive Democrats was a small socialist political party in the Republic of Ireland, active between 1958 and 1963. The party was founded as a left-wing progressive secular party. Clann na Talmhan (, "Family/Children of the land"; formally known as the ''National Agricultural Party'') was an Irish agrarian political party active between 1939 and 1965. Formation and growth Clann na Talmhan was founded on 29 June 1939 in Athenry, County Galway, in the wake of the breakdown of unification talks between the Irish Farmers Federation (IFF) and representatives of farmers in Connacht on the rate-paying issue. While the IFF supported full derating, the western view was that the largest farmers should not be relieved of all their rate-paying obligations. Were this to happen, the western opinion was that indirect taxation would inevitably increase, and small farmers and workers would find themselves appreciably worse-off. James Ryan (6 December 1892 – 25 September 1970) was an Irish politician who served in every Fianna Fáil government from 1932 to 1965, successively as Minister for Agriculture (1932–1947), Health and Social Welfare (1947–1948 and 1951–1954), and Finance (1957–1965).
