Government College Of Fine Arts, Chennai
The Government College of Fine Arts (initially known as the Madras School of Art) in Chennai is the oldest art institution in India. The institution was established in 1850 by surgeon Alexander Hunter as a private art school. In 1852, after being taken over by the government, it was renamed as the Government School of Industrial Arts. In 1962, it was renamed as the Government School of Arts and Crafts and the Government College of Arts and Crafts, before finally being renamed as present. Syed Thajudeen Shaik Abu Talib (born 23, August 1943) is a Malaysian painter. He is known for his large scale mural paintings of epic proportions set in period landscapes. A distinctive stylisation, romantic treatment of subject matter and the rich colours as in the Ajanta cave paintings of Maharashtra and of the Mughal (enriched from the wealth of Indian mythology) are apparent in his works. This, together with the traditional visual arts' integral connection with literature, music, dance, sculpture and philosophy, helped shape Syed's early works. Ebenezer Sunder Singh (born 16 April 1967) is an Indian-American visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Singh works primarily as a painter, sculptor, photographer and filmmaker. Early life and education Singh was born in the temple town of Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu in India. His formative years were influenced by the twin heritages of his hometown, which houses both Christian cathedrals and the Hindu Nellaiappar Temple. Singh went on to graduate from Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai, where he had begun to show his work in state-level exhibitions. He studied under A. P. Santhanaraj and L. Mumusamy.
